Majors / Reykjavik United
In one word: Suboptimal
Reykjavik came into the season with a healthy amount of TPE and a couple seasons of performances just good enough to avoid relegation, finishing fourth in the table in all three seasons since the divisional realignment (and fifth overall before that, which I guess would be good enough to avoid relegation this season as well). With this in hand, I think most people thought Reykjavik could be competing for a spot in 4th or sneaking into third if everything broke their way. Instead, things have broken pretty much the opposite way and Reykjavik is staring down a relegation match as the sixth place team in the standings. They have the third worst goal diff and the most goals given up by far with 26. Overall a pretty miserable season. Their cup performance wasn't much better (and pretty arguably worse) as they got bounced in the round of sixten, after winning only one match, against a minors team. Not even a majors division two team.
So, to sum up all of that word vomit: It's been disappointing in pretty much every way imaginable this season for Reykjavik, except maybe for the offensive output.
Outlook: The team is pretty old and I don't think the TPE earning is really there to offset the aging, given that the minors just started a big rebuild. I think, if demoted, there would be a few seasons for the team to compete for re-promotion, but then probably a few bad seasons as the minors rebuild ages up and promotes.
Minors / North Shore United
In one word: Mixed-Bag (The hyphen makes it count as one word, okay?)
North Shore is sitting in last in the division which isn't particularly surprising given that their TPE deficit coming into the season, compared to other minors division 1 teams, was absolutely massive. We would have been on the lower end of TPE for the second division, much less division one. With that said, North Shore did manage to win a game! That's an absolute highpoint for the season. On the other hand, we have a -30 goal differential which is worse than the two expansion squads. Sure there were low expectations, but I don't think they were that low. On the cup side of things, there was a SECOND win (wooo!) (over an expansion team but shut up) which is another thing to tip our cap on.
So the highs have been pretty high (compared to expectations) and the lows pretty low. A mixed-bag, then.
Outlook: High! North Shore has 3 of the top 10 earners from the most recent draft and should have some good picks over the next few seasons since, well, we sucked. The two members of the season 26 class also have a chance to be strong, if not absolute max, earners.
