#2 Rookie Season [Now Open to S17 Players]

Player Page
CPT 1

Borey Barflett’s rookie season was a terrible one. For his first time ever playing GK he did pretty well but this is professional soccer. He was the absolute worst GK out of all them. He played 20 games, the same amount as Tony Yeboah and he was the season MVP. When we just look back and compare their stats all we feel is shame. Of all 20 games Borey Barflett played his record was 2-15-3 meaning he had only won 2 of the games he played in. Whether it is his fault or the rest of the team's fault they lost those I don’t remember but it doesn’t matter. The depression of going on the field knowing he was 99% guaranteed to let the ball reach the back of the net was debilitating. Every shot that went against him he had a 63.6% chance of saving. Compared to Tony who had a 82.3% chance of saving it. The difference between their skill is eye opening. He did have the 3rd most saves held but I think it was just the volume of the balls coming at him. Cairo City’s backline was not the best defensively so the opposing team had a lot of shots on goal compared to the other teams. He had to face many more shots than the other goalkeepers but even so he let 37% of the shots he faced go through. He was expected to save 83.95% of them with the xSave% stat. He had the worst average rating of all GKs with 6.72. I think that's pretty respectable so maybe he was doing better than the score lines suggested. I was expecting an average in the 5’s at the very best.

Looking back at his terrible godawful rookie season I think he made quite a bit of improvements facing all of these strikers. But so did all the other GKs. I look back and I am proud that he will never be that bad and it is only up from here. When he finally finds a new team we will win the league super easily.

HalfEatenOnionBagel is the sexiest grader in the league, that's what I learned in second grade of SSL.

APPROVED

He had a natural knack for scoring goals and was always one of the best players on his team growing up in the outskirts of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. When he was offered a spot on Athenai FC, he jumped at the chance to play for one of the best teams in the SSL.

Jeffrey quickly became a starter for Athenai FC and scored a good amount of goals for the club, cementing himself as one of the better strikers in the SSL, and the main striker for Athenai. However, he always felt like he could do more. He was always striving to score more goals and help his team win more games. One day, Jeffrey was out on the soccer field practicing by himself. He was working on his shooting and trying to score from different angles. As he was practicing, he heard a voice calling his name. He turned around and saw a man walking towards him. The man introduced himself as Timo Werner. He said that he had been watching Jeffrey play and was impressed with his incredible skills and quality touch. The former Chelsea striker asked Jeffrey if he would be interested in being coached by someone of his skillset. Jeffrey was overjoyed at the opportunity and immediately said yes. Ever since then LaVert had noticed that he had fallen off in quality and was unable to finish in games despite not having any troubles earlier on.

After starting his rookie season on fire, LaVert was a name feared across the SSL. He was on a tear, scoring 6 Goals and an Assist in his initial 11 games.

However after the 11th game and his training session with Timo Werner, he noticed everything fell apart. Things were not looking so hot for our favorite Canadian striker. Despite still putting the same amount of effort into his game, he struggled to get the ball into the net. He saw his game ratings drop off, midfielders make up for his inability to score by taking things into their own hands and scoring a miserable 1 goal in his last 10 games.

Moving forward LaVert looks to train with another Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba in order to get his touch back.

APPROVED

She always was never a me-first player but rather someone who always wanted everyone to have a chance to succeed in such a challenging game. She had always dreamed of playing for the top club in her home country of Japan in Tokyo S.C. However, she was passed on by Tokyo, but she did hook the interests of one club across the pacific. The bright lights of Hollywood were calling her as Hollywood FC signed her to continue her journey and her dream of being a superstar in the soccer world.

Adjusting to the game in Hollywood was not easy as she thought it would, as she was often getting thrown around and looking like a noodle during the first few weeks of practice. One night, she found her rhythm and began an upward climb toward the split between the truth between reality and her desires. Her passing had become on point and precise because she was the fuel to the fire of the team's top scorers in Tiki Taka and Ricky Bobby. Some time passed, and it was time to make her mark in the Simulation Soccer League.

Hollywood was coming off a championship season the year prior, and expectations were sky high. Still, they were seen as an illusion at first when they suffered an ugly loss in the Supporters Shield game vs. Athenai FC, but this did not affect Videl at all. Hollywood placed 4th in the league standings that season with a record of 7-6-5. Videl had an 87% pass success rate making her one of the best wingbacks in the game that season. She also had two goals and two assists to her credit that season, which was vital in helping Hollywood get into the playoffs again. Hollywood got revenge on Athenai by besting them 2-1 and 4-2 to advance to the next round, where they faced Montreal United; However, Montreal was nowhere near Hollywood's level, and they quickly dispatched them 5-1 and 1-0 to advance to the SSL finals once again. In the finals, they ran into the cinderella Sydney City FC and required the magic of Valor to send the game into extra time. At that moment, she assisted on the game-winning goal in extra time by Hunter Jones to help clinch the Season 3 Simulation Soccer League Championship.

(402 Words)

APPROVED

It's not really easy to grade it as he was sitting behind Barflett for the most part of the season. He got most of the chances in the Cup games and he managed to drag his team into the semifinals....well, that's an exaggeration. He did a good job in helping his team in making that far into the tourney though. As for the league....not much to say. I think he only started there 4 or 5 times so it's hard to come up with conclusion. So let's just name so of his finest moments of the season 4:

- Helding Paris to only 1 goal in the first leg of the Cup 1/8 finals. I actually rewatched that game and honestly, he wasn't a hell of a brickwall. But he did some nice saves to keep the result ugly for the opposition side. It's believed that exactly after that game the Paris GM was starting to make efforts on acquiring Elmis, which as we already can see never brought a positive result for him;
- Penalty shootout vs London in Cup 1/4 finals. Well, that was something. I was not sure how is Elmis going to try to stop them as he clearly never had any beforehand exprience. As it turned out, he didn't even had to try much. I'm not sure what happened there. Either Elmis was handing his sin superpowers to London players or something, but 3(!) of 4 attempts went straight to the middle. In all cases the king of heresy didn't flinch and stayed at the same place which sealed the deal. Cairo went into the semifinals;
- League game against Seoul. The first meetup, to be exact. At that point, Seoul was still looked at as a team that could fight for the higher position on standings so seeing Elmis having his consistency on lock that day was a pretty good sight to see.

Of course, there were some bad moments, like what was he even trying to do in the second leg against Paris when they were scoring? I don't know. But I guess that's some mistakes rookies tend to do so I'll go light on him. But in overall, he showed some potential in his rookie season and now it's time to reap the benefits since he is becoming a starter.

APPROVED

Wesley Stains Player Page
CPT 1

Going into the season, I did not expect much in terms of scoring or other offensive stats, or even defensive stats. With the traits that I had, "Plays with back towards goal" and "Plays short simple passes", my player was destined to be in a more supportive role as I was surrounded by some very strong players. Throughout the season, Stains used his solid vision, passing, and all around smart and team-oriented play to support the transition from defense to offense, maintain possession, and put the ball in into Cairo's star players' hands.

This lack of care for individual stats of course led to Stains seeming unremarkable on the scoresheet. Throughout 21 appearances, Stains managed only one assist and no goals. His average game rating was only 6.76. He had a laughable expected goals for of 0.2, only getting one shot on target the whole season, only attempting 5 shots in total. Seeing this, Stains probably seems fairly useless, but in reality, he was an important part of the center midfield all season and allowed the star players around him to shine. Connor Azpilicueta scored 22 goals this season, Franco Torres scored 12. Ask Jeeves had an unbelievable 14 assists. These outstanding performances allowed Stains to not focus on scoring or creating goals, but instead being a connecting player who would be trustworthy with the ball and help out on defense.

Having Stains present in the midfield may have been a contributing factor in Cairo's defense improving as the season went on. Season 3 was a disaster for Cairo, as they came in last, their main weakness being their defense. In Season 4, Cairo jumped all the way to 5th to cement themselves as a Division 1 team, avoiding relegation. Overall, I am pretty happy with how Stains played this season. He did not do any flashy stuff, but when I watched the sims (and I watched all of them), it was extremely rare that I saw Stains make a mistake. I truly do believe that despite the mediocre stats, Stains had a positive impact on Cairo in his rookie season, and will look to contribute even more in Season 5.

361 words

APPROVED

Going from just jumping in, fighting for the League Title, all the way to win the Cup itself. Lets run down Leif Physt's rookie season with Club De Futbol Catalunya!

Debuting in Matchday 3 against the newly expanded club Accra. Leif would play all 90 minutes in what became a 3-0 win. He pulled off a rating of 7.8 which is awesome. What did this rookie do to earn such a high rating? As a Central Defender in a 4 back system, he was not to score often. In fact, the Dane failed to record a single shot attempt at all. Defenders are more often graded on their abilities to make passes, win headers, tackles, and avoid making mistakes that lead to goals against.

In this, Leif's passing was understandable for a nervous rookie. Managing only 79% success in his 69 passes attempted. He did win all but 1 of his 21 headers which is massive. Better yet, 4 of them were key in keeping goals out. Meaning that arguably. He alone kept it from being 4-3. He won his only tackle though he did commit a foul he was not carded. Physt added 5 intercepts and 23 clearances. A large body of work.

Catalunya would manage a 12-5-5 record. Unfortunately not good enough to win the League as they fell to 4th. They were in the mix most of the season. Leif played in 19 of 22 League games weather in all or part. This results in 14 and a half appearances. He finished with an average rating of 7 which is above average. He was Player of the Match once, fired 10 shots, though only hitting the net once and never earning a point.

The Dane's acumen came from his defensive play. Maintaining a passing success rate of 97% and making over 1000 passes already. 86.32% Headers won with 16 of his 183 being Key. Or a rate of just over 1 Key header per App. Again he won all but 1 tackle in league play. He never made a mistake leading to a goal which is mind blowing for a rookie. Leif seems already ready to be a high end centerback of the future.

His Cup play was even more exciting. Playing in 5 of the 6 games for Catalunya, he was instrumental in their first ever cup, the first by an expansion side. With an average rating of 7.15, this grander stage showed no less skill out of the lad. He only attempted 3 shots and, again only had 1 on target. But that 1 was a beautiful header out of a corner from Vins in his first appearance in the Cup, a 4-1 win over Montreal.

As Catalunya marched on with nary a miss step to their triumph, Physt was right there the whole way. Much more comfortable with the ball amongst his feet, the Bornholmer put up a 95% passing success rate. A rock on the back end for sure. His 84% success rate at headers was, admittedly worse than the season. But of those, 7 were key in his 5 apps. Meaning he was still just as good for coming up big. Again he won all but 1 of his tackles, made no mistakes that lead to goals, and, importantly, committed no fouls. Keeping his game clean, but strong.

When the team needed him at his best, Leif Physt rose to the occasion and performed like a seasoned veteran instead of the rookie he was.

(This was 601 words)

APPROVED

Many fans of the Simulation Soccer League are very familiar with the fact that Okamoto is a mainstay in Catalunya, since their inaugural season in S2. However, Shion Okamoto was actually a player in the very beginning of the league, in its first season.

Unfortunately, Okamoto showed up to the league too late to participate in any inaugural draft. However, there was a slight buzz around the league as he showed up on waivers fairly early in the season. Okamoto was contacted by many teams, but in the end, a team that reached out to him ended up clicking with him. That team was Tokyo SC.

Fans around the league are very familiar with Tokyo being a strong side, especially since they've been building their team since the league was formed. However, unknown to Shion Okamoto before joining the club, was the fact that Tokyo SC was about to face a very topsy turvy time. Before Okamoto even managed to play a couple of matches, it turned out that the club's leadership ended up collapsing. With this in the back of the players of Tokyo's minds, it was a bit difficult to develop some decent chemistry in the following matches.

However, it was announced that Tokyo was placed under new management, and the team managed to put up a solid showing over the course of season one. However, Shion Okamoto did not have an amazing season. He only appeared in seven league matches for Tokyo, finishing the season with one goal and one assist. Fans lamented how often Okamoto seemed to drift offside and kill a scoring chance, and the fact that he could not connect a cross from the wing to save his life. The Tokyo fans did change their tune though, as the club went on a Cinderella run to the SSL Cup finals. In the finals, Okamoto put in one of the best performances of his career, allowing his club to secure the inaugural SSL Cup and the adoration of many Tokyo fans.

As season one came to a close, the SSL was growing very quickly and was set to expand with two clubs. With Okamoto appearing in only seven league matches, it seemed that the new club management had other ideas for Okamoto's future. It was quickly mutually agreed that Okamoto would be exposed in the upcoming expansion draft. Okamoto would end up being selected with new side CF Catalunya's first expansion pick, linking up with club founder and great friend Budget Busquets. This would begin Okamoto's next chapter after an exciting and unexpected rookie season.

APPROVED

They were a team that had just relocated and rebranded themselves after previously being known as FC Rio. The team had just finished last place and pre-draft talks with the manager mostly centered around building the team from the ground up. While Jay Jay Okocha has always been someone who puts winning above all else, he thought it'd be more fulfilling to bring a team from last in the league to a championship contender.

Once pen was put to paper, Jay Jay Okocha slotted into the right midfielder role and one could not have written a much better start for the youngster. In their first match against Inter London, Okocha had an 87.5% passing percentage, a shot, and an assist, showing off his playmaking skills. Unfortunately, that would be one of the few positives of the match as Seoul would lose, 3-2.

Unfortunately, Okocha could not bring that same form to the team for most of the first half of the season. While he would have high pass percentages, some key passes here and there, and a shot on goal every couple of matches, none of his contributions showed up on the scoreboard. It wasn't until the 9th matchday of the season that he would find his form, scoring his first goal for the club and netting another assist in a thrilling 4-3 victory over Cairo City.

From that match onward, he would start to be a tad more consistent in his performances. A couple of matches later, he would have one of his best matches yet where he provided both assists to the two goals Seoul scored in a 2-2 draw against Hollywood FC. In 2 of the next four matches, he would provide two assists, including the assist for the game-winning goal against Athenai on matchday 17. In the final game of the season, he would not get another assist, but would find his name on the goal sheet as the Mythic ended their season with a banging 5-1 victory against Catalunya.

Overall, Jay Jay Okocha ended the season 2 goals and 6 assists, the latter of which he was tied for 6th in the league. While the season had some early hiccups, Jay Jay Okocha quickly became a much more consistent player and playmaker. It seemed like he was primed to be one of the better wingers in the league. However, it's funny how things aren't always what they seem.

APPROVED

They had lost many key players heading into the season and had hoped that their new draftees would be able to fill the holes they had left. Mathieu tried his best, but inexperience ultimately led to a record of 4 wins, 3 draws, and 15 losses. Mathieu personally had an alright season defensively, finishing with an average rating of 6.91 over his 22 appearances, all of which he started. He had a pass completion percentage of 98.2% and won 81.76% of his headers. He made 15 successful tackles, 5 of which could be considered key tackles, racked up 62 interceptions and made 260 clearances. Many opposing attackers took advantage of the teenager’s lack of polish in his game causing him to commit a league leading 4 mistakes that led to goals, including two in the very first matchday.

Cup games ended up being even worse for the young Frenchman, with his average rating plummeting to 6.42. His other stats look alright, but being on the receiving end of two beatdowns by Catalunya meant he was helpless as they scored goal after goal against them. The season culminated with the announcement that a second tier league was being formed, and Montreal would be the first team guaranteed relegation by their placement at the bottom of the table. What can be considered a disaster of a season for Montreal United provided the building blocks for future seasons however, with many draft picks being acquired and experience being gained for players like Yves Mathieu. Yves in particular looks to train hard and round out his game against weaker competition with hopes that he can help secure a promotion back to the first league heading into season five of the SSL.

APPROVED
