The biggest issue for me is that it hasn't been done in good faith. There might not be an explicit rule that has been broken, but you can rest well assured that Sydney would not like this to have been made common knowledge as they submitted their protection list. A managers responsibility is not purely for the benefit of the team, but for the league as a whole. We work together to make sure that the league can grow into something even more amazing than it already is. Part of that is bringing up things that can be abused like this, and not try to abuse it. Some of the takes in this thread are completely failing to see the bigger picture. Do you want a better run league? Then help run it instead of trying to abuse the rules or cry about how unfair it is your team is getting punished for something that. This league is literally not even a year old. Things like this WILL happen and will probably keep happening. Rashford, Canadice and the rest of BoD are doing an amazing job. They are doing so much more for the league than most of you seem to assume.

With a lack of information I had a lot of thoughts that were incorrect. It’s a tough balance as, while I see it hard to stomach punishing a team for its players voiced opinions. Given that there were players who were not going to retire and were not chosen. I can see how the punishment would have been agreed on.

I've said what I wanted to say in private to the managers and BoD, but I will say this in here. The BoD is NOT going to punish teams just for the hell of it. They put in a ton of work to make this enjoyable for everyone, and they aren't going to just hand out punishments to piss people off. Not to mention the punishment is not going to kill those teams long term, ask the managers themselves, it's more of just a slap on the wrist to show that what was done can't be done. Also I don't think anyone feels anything negative towards the managers of Cata or Sydney, I'm one of the expansion managers and I've spoken to Pau and Omni on multiple occasions before during and after all of this and I have no issues with either of them and will have no issues working with them on deals in the future. They did what was best for their team, but it wasn't best for the league and it's a balancing act. We need the BoD to step up in times like these the way that they have to ensure what we as managers are doing isn't hurting the league as a whole while helping our own teams. My biggest issue is that a number of players told their managers (or me directly) that they would refuse to play for an expansion team without even having a conversation with me. I scouted. I had conversations with literally over 70 people throughout my expansion scouting, and I have pages and tabs full of notes (players themselves, managers of teams, some players teamates from other leagues etc.), I drafted only active players, but I also contacted and spoke to a bunch of IA players to see if any of them would return to the league. It was a slap in the face to have some players intentionally ignore my messages or refuse to even have a quick chat with me. I passed on selecting a handful of players who I have GREAT chats with and would have loved to have on my team because they told me that they would prefer to stay with their teams rather than leave. I put a shitload of time into preparing for this draft, on top of my real life responsibilities, and to have people not even give 2 minutes to have a chat and say "hey, nice talking to you but I'd rather stay where I am" sucked. I can appreciate that a lot of you want to stay on the team where your friends are. I personally wanted to draft a team of active users who would enjoy being in a LR together and have fun chatting, so I respect that and didn't take anyone who I knew really wanted to stay put. All I ask is that in the future people are more receptive to at least having the conversation because a lot of work goes into this and it's the least that you can do.

i was out of contract and asked the GMs of Sydney to extend me *and* protect me from draft which they did. Just saying. With all due respect: It's weird to me that you're punishing two young, active teams for correctly utilizing a loophole that you all created. Also, I know for a fact that our GMs verified multiple times that what they were doing was within the rules. I would 110% understand if you wanted to close the loophole for the next round of expansion (which, knowing this league, will probably be next season - but I digress) but to retroactively punish teams for playing by the rules and then deciding you didn't like the rules you created is extremely odd to me. Regardless, I love my team and locker room and I am so grateful they protected me in this draft when I asked that they do so. I will continue to be active but not gonna lie this whole thing has really left a bad taste in my mouth. I get that the BoD job is not easy - and I get that you all were in a tough spot. I just.... don't love at ALL how this went down.

This isnt a collective big all fun sing and dance be happy love everyone. No, what we are trying to do is win titles. Also by the way, the BOD wont bother to say Pau asked them about these things so they were very clearly stated as legal. (FA's open for expansion coming back). the BOD didnt have an issue till much later. Instead of yelling at us for following the rules. how about you tell the board to make better rules for next time and to maybe go to a PBE or an ISFL expansion committee member who have been doing expansions for years and be like hey affiliated league. We are new to this. I never said they were lazy etc etc. What im saying is, it is bad for a league to just punish teams that follow the rules. Fix them for later not retroactive. Also, once again. I love how no one is noticing I have multiple times in this thread destroyed half the logic of this punishment that is was Pau and Van who orchestrated this.
