The Eleven - Theme Week
Spack Jarrow's Journey: Entry #5
If you ask Spack Jarrow who his dream starting eleven would be, he would choose his teammates. I know that is met with an eye-roll (understandable) but these are people he's won championships with. Why would he desire to play with others? So getting him to choose anyone who isn't on Hollywood FC would be impossible.
However that isn't really in the spirit of the theme so if we stipulate that you can't choose any Hollywood FC players then I think we can come to an agreement and draw up a strong starting eleven.
Be warned before proceeding. I am a dummy. I neither have the game, nor know much about tactics beyond what youth soccer taught me (oranges at half) and EA FIFA (Cheeto's between whistles).
The Team
Striker - Owen Forty-Four
I like players with pace and Forty-Four is one of the most prolific scorers who is always pushing and attacking. His scoring prowess is arguably the best in the league.
Striker - Franco Torres
A reliable scorer who consistently puts the ball into the back of the net. Has expanded his passing game and has become a playmaking threat on top of his scoring.
Left Midfielder - Kuai Liang
One of the best playmaking midfielders in the game who can play both sides of the field. Is extremely well rounded and can score from distance.
Attacking Midfielder - Connor Azpilicueta
A natural goal scorer who likes to push the pace and can attack in the air with lethal accuracy with his headers. Can play both striker and attacking mid so have options to change attacking players.
Right Midfielder - Leonidas Papadopoulos
A team can never have too many scorers and adding another threat would only make this team even scarier. Papadopoulos is a well rounded player who has a knack for scoring goals.
Defensive Midfielder - Ask Jeeves
OK, this is where it gets controversial. I know Jeeves is a L/R wingback but if I could convince them to play in the middle of the field I think we could set up a unique style that can transition the ball quickly while still being defensively sound. If not, I'd have to find a place for the player as he's too talented not to be on the team.
Leftback - Deedee Yoker
A playmaking leftback with blazing speed who has outstanding crosses and uses his athleticism to push the pace. Made a huge impact last season for his team. An easy addition to the team.
Centerback - Powdered ToastMan
A heading best, ToastMan is a force at defending in the air and at marking his opponent. Clears the field around him and is one of the best tacklers in the league.
Centerback - Squall Vercetti
A smart defender who is always in position and has a strong presence in the center. Known to make the right decision with the ball and is extremely reliable both on the field and in the air.
Rightback - Yannick Visser
Possibly the youngest player on the team but one who has shown great potential. One of the most accurate and active crossers in the game. We need the ball in attacking positions and Visser is one of the best at putting it in dangerous locations.
Goaltender - Alexandra Gunnarsson
Goaltending seems to be pretty dependant on the team and vary from season to season in this game but Gunnarsson has probably been the most reliably top performing goalie in the league the last few seasons.
The Tactics
I'm no Posh Spice when it comes to futbol tactics. First, I'd give control over to the players who are all intelligent and know the game well. If that doesn't work then I'll hire a coach or something to figure it out. That's why I'd pay the tactic people to do the tactics. I know how to delegate.
The End Result
I'm not sure how the team would perform. I know I took a lot of players who have high match ratings and leaders of specific statistical categories and relied heavily on season 4 statistics. Whether that meshes well, I have no idea.
If it wouldn't require an insane amount of work, it would be a fun tournament if you could have each persons dream 11 play against one another to see who picked the best group.
