How do you make a championship team? That is the question every manager asks constantly. It is the goal of every side in the beautiful game. Here in the SSL, what makes a championship caliber team? Cup wins, Shield wins, but everyone's favorite is topping the Table. League winners are always lauded as the height to aspire to. It is the greatest example of champion. Capable of high caliber play consistently over the course of the entire schedule. With the Cup, you can get hot or win on penalties. The Shield? Cool, but it's one game.

For Leif Physt and Catalunya, it has been the Top of the Table that has eluded them now for nearly four seasons. In Season two, FC Catalunya were fresh and new. Finishing fourth in a league of 8 with a ridiculous number of draws. Nobody expected them to challenge for the League title. Was another mid table run and no success even though the League expanded to Ten teams. Season four saw the drafting of the young core, Guys like McFlopface, Physt, and Maple were drafted. League was expanded to no less than twelve teams. On one sad hand, the Spanish side finished six points back from the Top. On the other, happy end. Catalunya won both the Cup AND the Shield ahead of Season Five. It was amazing and showed a huge next step. Not much more for such a historically significant side. Maple has bloomed into a bonified star striker, McFlopface is an amazing supporting midfielder and Leif Physt, in spite of being less flashy has stepped into the center back role as if he has been playing in the SSL since day one.

Coming so brutally close, stumbling toward the end of the season to miss the title by one point. As well as being bounced in the Cup run that season meant that the bar was set at WIN THE LEAGUE! No ifs ands or buts. FC Catalunya is RIGHT THERE.

This all brings us to Season six. With only three games left, the Catalan side can leap above Hollywood and Cairo in they win each of their last games against Accera, Sao Paulo, and Sydney, the latter of which Topped the Table JUST last season. Not only that, but they are set to play in the Semi Finals of the Season Six Cup. Almost a step behind last season. Recent play has been all over the place. Their last three games have been A two to two draw with Tokyo, a seven to three blasting of Atheni who has the same record as Catalunya, and finally a two to nill loss to leaders in Hollywood.

Like the team, Leif's play on the pitch has been all over the place. In the eleven outings so far, Leif has only had a seven plus rating four times. Three of those were wins. He is going to need to step it up to give his adopted country another thing to cheer for. On the flip side. The stick of Danish Dynamite has been stellar in each of Catalunya's four cup outings, yes even the 5-2 drumming by Cairo. He does have a history of living up to the epitaph in cup play. He has played all or part of twelve cup games since being drafted in Season Four. In only Four of those games has he played under a Seven rating. Two of those were only half games as a sub in. He has two goals in his career, both in the cup, both off of corners headed in from a Vins Vins setup. If he could bring that play into the League, where it arguably matters more, Catalunya could just possibly become the first incredible team.

Tough break this season in the league, but we have all the potential in the world. Other than arguably Hollywood we've been the only team to consistently be competitve in the league. It'll come to us
