Christmas in Tokyo Article W57
#1
It's never easy being away from home for the Holidays. It's supposed to be the time to be with your family but unfortunately as a professional athlete that is not always the case. Several of the major sports leagues in fact play games on Christmas day. Sure the family could come to the game and watch you play, but it will never be the same as sitting around the tree and watching the family open their presents together, eating a big family breakfast together, or traveling to a cousins house to see the whole extended family. As I am now several seasons into my professional career I am starting to get used to being away from everyone on Christmas. Fortunately for me and all my fellow athletes there are some things that make celebrating away from home a bit easier. For instance with all the technology available to us we can easily hop on a zoom call and be together virtually during this special day. It will never be the same as a traditional Christmas spent at home with everyone but I guess its as close as we get. The fame and money are great most of the time but on days like this it really makes you question if its worth it.
