The gods above (or at least some random guy named @Canadice) burst into the Atletico Medellin room and declared "New and hopefully improved normal tactic", refused to elaborate, and left without another word. My first question upon hearing this announcement was what were we running before if it wasn't deemed "normal"? Nonetheless he seemed pretty trustworthy. Far more trustworthy than the person that stole my lunch earlier this morning.
With tactics changed the team now sat in a 4-1-4-1 formation. It comes as little surprise to us here at Medellin that the tactics have changed to be more defensively oriented. The question had always been who is going to score our goals? It had been Gagne but he admitted himself he was shocked to be scoring goals. That was not his natural role he found himself telling the team. He preferred making elegant long passes into the box and to teammates. This has lead Medellin to go out and get the best striker on the market, Jinchou Nootazuki.
Before the matches of the week even started there was an excitement in the air that Medellin had been missing for quite some time. Dead last in the standings with a mere 4 points and 1 win to their name Medellin was looking for a spark and they believed they had found it. Before going out onto the pitch Twinkletoes made the remark "Undefeated streak starts now. Those first few games didn’t count anyway" However in their way was a Stockholm team second in the standings at 10 points. Could Medellin overcome the odds? The spot to leave an answer was left empty through the first 34 minutes. Atletico weren't giving up any big chances as their defensive block remained strong (despite some worrying turnovers in the midfield) but much like previous showings, the Medellin attack was nonexistent. This all changed in the 35th minute with Gaisberg bringing the ball to the left side of the box passing it into what appeared to be Nootazuki however, ever the genius he is, Nootazuki jumps over the ball and lets it fall to Rubin. Rubin takes a poorly attempted shot that luckily gets hit right back into him and that is when he spots it. Lurking straight on with the goalie just on the outside of the goal box is Nootazuki who has just enough space between him and the defender to slide the ball in. And that is exactly what he does. Rubin makes a perfect pass and Nootazuki picks his spot in the back of the net for his first goal of the season giving Medellin a one goal lead.
With the goal in hand, the Medellin attack became more fierce than ever before and was relentless to close out the first half. Despite not scoring another goal in the first half Medellin had all the momentum. They used this momentum to come out firing in the second half Chambers playing a wonderful ball to Rubin on the right side of the box as he beat his defender to slide a pass over to a sprinting Noot in the middle of the pitch and beating his defender by half a step, Nootazuki taps the ball to the right of the goalie for his second goal in his first appearance on the season.
To put icing on the cake Medellin went coast to coast from the far right side of the pitch to the close left side as Mcfootcakes effortlessly passed the ball into Nootazuki who was sitting where he had been his past two goals and provided Medellin with a hat trick in his first match with the team. However, trouble was afoot because the three musketeers (Skovgaard, Skovgaard, and Skovgaard) complained to the refs about him being offsides and drew fake lines to prove they were correct. Unfortunately with the match being in Stockholm the refs were likely being paid by the Stockholm team because the goal was disallowed and the hat trick taken away.
Revitalized realizing they can cheat to win, Stockholm immediately went on the attack and Piexoto hit a banger of a shot into the far right corner of the goal, a ball that was impossible to save and just like that the score was 2-1. By the 85th minute two of the three Skovgaards were on yellows which shows just how dirty they had been playing all game but thanks to a terrible header from Wince that landed right at the feet of a Stockholm player. Stockholm was able to tie the game in the 85th minute and all hope of 3 points for Medellin seemed lost. The Stockholm attack had exploded in the second half having doubled the shots and shots on target of Medellin and if anything, holding onto 1 point was proving difficult.
It seemed that the Stockholm goal was inevitable as Twinkletoes was forced to make a miracle save in the 87th minute which was followed by a Skovgaard flopping around on the ground like a fish in the penalty box hoping the refs would call a PK. Luckily despite going to VAR even they didn't see anything that would warrant grounds for calling a foul.
Then our hero came to save the day. It was deja vu as Mcfootcakes effortlessly passed the ball from the far left side of the pitch into the middle of the box where Nootazuki was chilling like a villain hero jumping up on his left foot and kicking the ball as hard as he could with his right foot into the back of the net to get himself that hat trick he so rightfully deserved and give Medellin the go ahead goal in the 89th minute. A VAR check couldn't bring back this goal and Medellin had defeated Stockholm 3-2.
Just two days later Noot would tack on two more goals including an 82nd minute game winner to prove Twinkletoes right as Medellin would win 3-2 in back to back matches and staying undefeated in the new tactic era.
