We're going into the final phases of yet another season - time sure seems to fly really fast here in the SSL. Let's have a short look at the title race with three games to go.
Up ahead, with 25 points in 11 games, is Reykjavik United, followed by Schwarzwälder Fußballverein with 22 (and a way worse goal differential), Athhletice Clava Romana and Tokyo Sports Club are following with 19 points each (and an even worse goal differnential for both).
With only 9 points left to earn, it's going to be tough for both Tokyo and Romana to pass Rekyavik, but anything is possible in football. Let's look at the remaining matchups for the top two teams:
Reykjavik first has to travel to Rome, and then meets Tokyo at home before going on the road again for the final game at Catalunya. If they win one out of these games, they are basically guaranteed to be ahead of both Romana and Tokyo due to their strong goal differential. But having to face both of these top teams - and one of them on the road - could be dangerous for them as they attempt to close the season.
Meanwhile, Schwarzwälder FV plays the bottom three to close out the season: Away in Catalunya, at home against Hollywood, and a match in Sao Paolo to close out. Despite having a goal differential of +25 (13 less than Reykjavik's +38), it's actually not impossible for SFV to catch the Vikings, as Sao Paolo has given up 10 or more twice this season already.
Prediction:
I expect Reykjavik to win at home and against Catalunya, but drop the game in Rome. Meanwhile, SFV will win all three games, but in their final game, they will only beat Sao Paolo 8-1, which will give the title to Reykjavik due to one goal difference
