Where do PS Jakarta go from here and the curious performance of Timo Geurts?
We’re 4 games into a 14 game campaign and it already feels like a crisis situation at PS Jakarta following a devastating defeat at the hands of Marean Dohbra and Istanbul FK.
Speaking of Dohbra, we’re now going to take a deep dive into those EIGHT goals as a means of showcasing the unquestionably talented young Romanian. But we’re also going to be keeping our eye on another player, a certain Timo Geurts of PS Jakarta, a telanted Dutch full back who is showing great promise. Strap in for a simple match report evolving into some investigative journalism before your very eyes!
For reference here are both teams’ starting line ups, taken after the game and to include their match ratings:
Instanbul FK
PS Jakarta
“Nothing untoward” I hear you say, “Geurts didn’t even play THAT badly”. Well, let’s take a ride!
Goal 1 (Marean Dohbra 13’)
Davidovic picks Biglehoward’s oversized pockets before Nadj plays a square pass infield to Voda, at the same time Geurts has made a surging run from his LB position into the middle of the pitch, vacating his flank. Voda looks up to see Dohbra in space on the right flank before playing a simple ball into Dohbra’s feet, the Romanian then strides unchallenged into the box and tucks the ball into the bottom corner.
Goal 2 (Marean Dohbra 17’)
![[Image: jS2Uk20.png]](https://i.imgur.com/jS2Uk20.png)
Dohbra started this move off driving down the right flank, followed closely by Geurts at this point, as Dohbra then plays the ball infield to Krznaric Geurts shuttles across the pitch like a man on a mission! Dohbra is free on the edge of the box, easily picked out by Dobric with a nice first time pass, he takes a generous first touch before slotting it home across the goalkeeper.
Goal 3 (Marean Dohbra 44’)
Some scrappy play between Barker Dez and Nadj on the left flank end up in the ball move infield to Voda of Instanbul FK. Voda looks up and has a momentary flash of deja vu as he spots Dohbra in acres of space on the right flank, you guessed it Geurts has went walkabouts again! A simple pass into Dohbra’s feet and the ball is in the back of the net within a flash to complete his hattrick!
Goal 4 (Marean Dohbra 45’+1)
Instanbul FK's Seven initiates this attack as he moves the ball up field, Geurts spots an issue and decides to position himself in the middle of the pitch (because that has worked so well up to this stage). A simple pass by Seven into the feet of Krznaric is then worked wide to Instanbul’s right full back, Patak. Noticing the actual danger Geurts comes rushing over before Patak slots the ball into the path of an unmarked Dohbra and an early shot deflects in off the goalkeeper Bus.
Goal 5 (Marean Dohbra 64’)
Voda starts the play off to this move in the middle of the pitch with Geurts playing this time in the right centre back position. Voda is closed down quickly by Takahashi before the ball is moved to Jimotheus on the edge of the box, Tut comes across to close him down but Jimotheus is able to find Dohbra in his usual vacant space on the right hand side of the box. Play doesn’t follow it’s usual patter here as Hovi makes an interception with the ball breaking loose to the overlapping Patak who has an age to play a simple ball into the middle which subsequently breaks to an unmarked Dohbra who smashes it in!
Goal 6 (Marean Dohbra 71’)
This goal bucks the trend of the other seven in that Geurts is actually picking up his man in Dohbra whilst the ball is on the left flank at the feet of Nadj. He plays a nice short pass into the half space for Krznaric to drive to the byline and cut back before delivering a low cross to the backpost. Dohbra is there and Geurts isn’t able to get close enough to him to stop the Romanian from slotting home his 2nd hattrick!
Goal 7 (Marean Dohbra 83’)
Patterson loses the ball after finding himself isolated on the half way line before the onslaught continues, this time an early ball is played to Dohbra just inside the PS Jakarta half. Geurts opts again to surge infield to track that invisible player who he has managed to keep quiet all game. This allows Dohbra to drive all the way into the box and slot in perhaps his easiest goal of the game!
Goal 8 (Marean Dohbra 86’)
Dohbra himself begins this move on the right flank with Takahashi and Cain, of PS Jakarta, in tow. Geurts spotting the apparent danger infield does his usual trick of sprinting away from the play before Dohbra drops the ball off to Krznaric on the edge of the box. A nice inside ball finds Jimotheus inside the box, he quickly moves the ball onto Dohbra, who has ghosted into the vacant space before calmly slotting it home to round of a joyous day for the young goal scorer.
Final Thoughts:
Now, I don’t know about you but I got a sense of pattern emerging in each of those eight goals. One might say that a certain PS Jakarta left back in fact deserves the assist for at least seven of them! An investigation no doubt will be taking place behind the scenes to discern how a player of such promise could find himself so woefully out of position time and time again! Did he just get distracted by a fan in the crowd shining a laser onto the pitch, unable to stifle those feline urges? Was he marking an invisible player, deployed through some Turkish witchcraft? Has his bank balance received a sizeable deposit of Turkish lira in the days since the game? Or, was he perhaps being asked to man mark a specific player on the opposite flank?? Only time will tell (or a peak at the PS Jakarta tactics individual player instructions...)
