Otis Boudreaux Jr grew up hearing about the SSL from his Da. He heard numerous times about how had been in the SSL when the league was young. He was told how much promise the league had. But he also heard how Otis had injured his knee. Sadly, it was not even on the football pitch…just a random accident when he tripped on an uneven pavement while on a walking tour of Jack the Ripper while on holiday with his new wife in London.
Otis and his wife moved to Galway, Ireland, where his wife, Kelly, was from. He settled into his new life but never forgot his short-lived career in that football league. Eventually their family began to grow as they had 3 children, Otis Boudreaux Jr, Orla, and Angus. All 3 started playing football but Orla and Angus slowly lost interest, but not OBJr. He seemed to be a natural. His fluid movement down the pitch coupled with his ability to anticipate the movement of his opposition made him a force to be reckoned with in the youth leagues around Galway.
His Da worked with to develop his left leg into a lethal weapon on the pitch as OBJr learned how to curl the ball as he shot with the full force of his ever-growing frame. These skills helped him to work his way through the leagues in his hometown.
But he couldn’t help but wonder if he had what was needed to go further? Yes, there had been some interest from clubs around Ireland, and even the United Kingdom, but none were in the SSL. Should he continue to wait or go ahead and take one his current offers? Shamrock Rovers had sent a very tempting offer. The one from Swansea looked even better. But if he took one would that hurt his chances of an SSL career?
He decided to wait another couple of weeks. At least he knew he had those really good offers. Just 3 days later he came home from practice to a smiling Da. OBJr had gotten the call…the SSL scouts had been following him for a couple of years. They were excited by what they had seen and wanted to offer him a spot in their upcoming academy season.
OBJr called them back, almost too nervous to talk…yes, he would accept the offer! He started to hang up the phone when he heard the scout ask if he wanted to know where to report to…of course, he had been so excited he had forgotten about that.
The next day he was on the plane…Stockholm! Lets get this party started!
