Theme week: some great kits
#1
I always love talking about the topic of kits in sports, so this will be a fun one for me to write about. I love a lot of kits but I’m biased and instead of going for the best kits out there, I’m going to talk about the kits of some of the teams I support. First for me will always be the Ajax home kit.

It’s simple, instantly recognizable, and truly a classic for the team. This jersey has remained largely unchanged over most of the team’s history and is a true testament to the idea that “if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it.” They did change their logo at some point and I must say I really like the one they have. The 11 lines in the logo representing the 11 players on the pitch is also a nice touch. Lastly, the captain’s armband being based on the flag of the city looks super cool.

Next up are two kits from the same team: Cavalry FC of the Canadian Premier League.

The home kit they used for their inaugural season is fantastic.

On the surface it might not look like anything special, and in some ways it probably isn’t. It’s a very simple design although I do like the minimalist approach they took with it. The cool thing about it is the symbolism. See, the team is named after a regiment of the Canadian army called Lord Stratchona’s horse. Their ceremonial uniform is red with a white sash:

So it makes a lot more sense as to why they went with the kit they did, and I think it is a great tribute to a part of the history of the area.

Now the last kit I will show also happens to be from Cavalry FC. This jersey doesn’t need as much explanation, it just looks amazing, in my opinion.

The colours are great, and so is the mountain imagery. Of course, it pays homage to the Rocky Mountains which are next door to Calgary, and it is almost as beautiful as the mountains themselves. A simply beautiful jersey.

Hey Whitecap, I absolutely love your picks here! I am a huge Ajax fan, Johan Cryuff is easily one of the most influential guys in all of football and has a huge impact on the way I try to play at CF Catalunya. I am also Canadian and love that you included your CPL club. I have to say though, that York United FC's 9 stripe away kit last season was absolutely my favourite CPL kit and one of my favourite kits worldwide since it is my local club. GL this season, although I hope York beats you guys. I actually saw your club play recently when they went to Ottawa!
