A new Matias Xavier
#1
Montreal has won 4-2 versus Krung Thep on matchday two in the minor league season. Matias has received his first red in his career since that fateful day in Misiones, Argentina. Matias walks into the press room, a sight few in management or even his sponsors want to see. This time he is adorned with glasses, an unusual sight and quite ridiculous considering his vision is not poor and his intellect is not high. He takes a seat with the utmost precision that seems almost geometrical the way he seems to calculate where to sit in relation to the chair, he might construct a proof of how he makes a perfect square border between his person and the edges of the chair. The reporters are confused about why he is both in the press room and why it is taking him so long to sit down.

Matias breathes deeply before looking outwards towards the press room, the lights, and the reporters. He clears his throat loudly, "Today has been a revelation for me, for the first time since I was twelve I have been awarded a red card. I have been looking forward to this day since I was 12. Everyone always says that when you get your first red you can never go back. So I kept chasing that tackle, I kept chasing that argument, I kept searching for my purpose in football. I wanted to be the most dangerous, the hardest center back to grace the SSL".

Matias takes a second to collect his thoughts, his face constricted, he both knew what to say but not how to say it, "Though today I have reached that peak of emotions where I got my red card, I believed this would allow me to achieve inner peace. Yet when I clipped the attacker, already on a yellow, I felt nothing. I saw the red card like an apparition of deity, his face red with anger, the same anger I had carried all these years. It felt like no matter what I did these past years whether I was already on a yellow or cardless I would never do enough to see my patron saint, the red card himself. Yet, when I saw the manifestation of what I had always wanted to see, I did not switch from feeling nothing to feeling peace, I still felt angry. As though it would never be enough. So when I went down the tunnel, seeing my teammate miss a penalty I knew very well I would have slotted, my manager making it know that my behavior was not correct and I should have taken the penalty had I still been on the pitch, I realized my current persona would not curry favor with what my future self had to be. Argentinian center backs are some of the dumbest men to exist on this earth, I am no different. But understanding this feeling of anger and a lack of relief, I seek to be better than my predecessors. I want to formally apologize to my manager and to my fans. I promise to be a better defender, one who doesn't take pride in his aggressiveness but puts the team first. I still see us as champions come the end of the season, and I want to be an integral part of that. I will serve my ban and rejoin when I am allowed. Now, I will open it up to questions."

The reporters are stunned, yet a brave soul pipes up and questions, "What's with the glasses Mr. Xavier?". Xavier quickly responds that he has always needed them but he is not dependent on them to actually see. He waits for one more question. Another reporter jerks his head up and timidly begins to speak, "Does this mean that you rebuke your conspiracy theories about the SSL, that you don't believe that the former player known as Goodrick and this owl have been going to church to meet up with a choir so that they could serenade Sunday Death's Brood of Torment church goers is all a lie?". Xavier's face becomes stern, he brows furrow and his lips purse before raising his voice, "Are you one of those bad comedians I was talking about last time I was in this room. That is all real, my IQ has always been high, that was a glimpse into it. I will leave the press conference with this, there is a new dawn for Matias, one with intelligence and character. Also, to that annoying commentator that constantly calls me "Patias Pavier", my elite penalty taking does not take away from my defensive abilities, and I know where you live both in the USA and in Argentina. Your name is on an unidentified lethal object at my house, so keep my name OUT OF YOUR MOUTH!!" Matias typically ends his press conferences by blowing really hard on the mic, piercing everyone who is in the room's ears, yet like he has promised, he collects himself and leaves the conference room. Matias is finding his peace, but his journey is long and treacherous, and it is just beginning.

New? Yes. Improved? Well that remains to be seen but a strong showing all the same.

Solid article mate, flowed really well and was very detailed. The only real criticisms I could come up with would be terribly niche and boil down to syntax structure but that is me being picky. A great article indeed.
