Back 2 Beginnings
#1
I have always been fascinated by Football Manager. As someone who has never been able to escape the hockey world interest-wise, I appreciate just how much better made a game like Football Manager is compared to my best option, Eastside Hockey Manager. Now I don’t know how much of the game is trimmed and put to the side in a sim league context, but even just the community support, the tactical depth, and the attribute design is simply better in all meaningful ways. I am very excited to get to learn to be a part of that game, as my attempts at just playing whichever version was free that one time on the Epic Games store have all ended without much success. I do have a lot of love for the game of soccer, as it was the first sport I really got to be a part of in my own childhood. I ended up dropping it for volleyball and rowing, not that I stopped loving soccer, but I decided somehow that there was no economic future in Canadian Mens Soccer, compared to... rowing and volleyball? I don’t know man I was like 13. A few concussions and a whole slew of overuse injuries later, I was out of both sports, into university and promptly a pandemic. I found sim hockey, and made my home in the VHL, but now, on the other side, and as a bit of a veteran now, I’m making a return to childhood, to my beginnings, and into the simple world of house league soccer. I’m going to run around and pass the ball with my homies, and try to keep the ball out of our net, just like old times.
