New club, new life, new... position?

Nyron didn't feel the tap on his shoulder. He was tired - a summer break had left him a little short of match fitness, and as the second overall pick to Liffeyside Celtic he had wanted to prove a point in his first training session. He had been running hard.

"Nyron!"

He felt a hand grab a shoulder this time. He turned to see one of his coaches.

"Stay back a second, the gaffer and I want a word."

The coach led Nyron over to the manager, who greeted him with a smile.

"Nyron, how's it going son?"

He didn't wait for a response.

"We've been watching you for a while before we brought you here. You're fast, you're strong, you jump a mile in the air, and you can play a bit. You've spent last season playing down the left - we think you can do better as a defender."

Nyron was taken aback.

"But gaffer, I've never..."

"I know what you're going to say, son. But we've got a long preseason ahead of us and the best coaches money can buy. Just have a go at it. If you can't play centre back in three weeks, you're going back to the left wing. Good lad."

The manager and coach walked off, leaving Nyron standing shocked.

Congratulations? Who knows, perhaps this is the start of a new journey.
