Kalinins' Kash Korner - A Financial Fable
#1
Kaspars Kalinins is exploring some special, out of pocket, individual training. With who you might ask? The results may surprise you, or at least that’s what a social media clickbait headline would say. The answer is, he’ll be seeing a financial advisor. When you’re early in your career, it’s easy to get carried away with an influx of cash, and blow it on some frivolous purchase that sets back your current and post-soccer life by a long time.

So Kaspars wants to make sure there’s someone in his corner, even if it costs some fraction of his wealth in fees, to back him up, and set him up for sustainability and a life beyond, and outside of, soccer. It can be complicated with citizenship, athletic contracts, and of course the myriad of tax knowledge required to be a master of any particular region let alone the multitudes that one could play the world’s most popular sport in, and so it costs a good chunk of change to get the best.

Kaspars has had to put in some extra effort on his sponsorship deals, cut down on his lifestyle spending, and make the most of what he’s getting at the academy level. But setting up a good financial foundation now will pay out great dividends, pun intended, down the road.
