Reasons to believe in Liffeyside

The season has started off rough for the Irish expansion team, so I want to make the case that it's not all that bad.

1) This was kind of inevitable

Every expansion team finds their first season rough - the current situation wasn't entirely unexpected. With the current assignment of talent between the majors and minors rosters, this was never going to be a great first season in the major leagues.

2) They keep the ball pretty well

Despite their league position, Liffeyside have had 51% possession across their matches so far. Not bad for a team with 1 point in 5.

3) Carolien Miedema is real

The bright spot of the Liffeyside Celtic attack, Miedema is averaging a goal every 77 minutes so far this season, scoring 1.88 more goals than xG would predict.

4) Upgrades are waiting

Rova has some really good talent, probably the most needed of which is goalkeeper Snor Lax. With all due respect to Mr Clean Sheet, he probably doesn't have a majors level of talent.

5) We haven't played AC Romana yet

This isn't just flame towards my old club, but the sim does preseason odds. Liffeyside were 150-1 to win the league (no chance). Romana were 2000-1. This game is one that both teams will have circled on their calendars as the best chance for some joy in a miserable season.

Two questions, is the running theory that Miedema is not real? And my second question is if you know Ryan Van Eindhoven plays for AC Romana. I don't see Liffeyside getting more than 6 points this season unfortunately. Better luck next season though!
