Ten matches into the S22 campaign, Reykjavik United still clings to the top of the ladder.
With eight wins and two draws, Reykjavik United has a total of 26 points, putting them two ahead of Uniao Sao Paulo’s 24 points.
The difference that separates these two clubs is a lone draw. Reykjavik United earned a win earlier in the season against Hollywood FC where Uniao Sao Paulo’s early season match with them resulted in a draw.
Reykjavik is fortunate it’s lead was not cut in half this past week. The club had to come from behind and net a goal in the 90+4 minute to earn a draw against CF Catalunya on Matchday 10 to match Sao Paulo’s 2-2 draw against A.C. Romana.
Sao Paulo has shown to be a goal scoring machine, leading the Majors with 34 goals for. They are also the stingiest club in terms of giving goals up, yielding just 12 allowed on the year. Reykjavik lags just a bit behind in both categories, having scored 30 goals on the year and given up 13.
For their part, Hollywood FC still nips at the leaders’ heels at 22 total points. They have scored 28 goals on the year – fourth best in the league – and have allowed 14 – third fewest behind the two table leaders.
The Majors appears to be a three-team race at this point in the season. Though there are still plenty of games left on the schedule, a bit of distance has emerged between the top three and the rest of the pack.
