Turk Background Story Part #2
#1
It really wasn’t Turk’s fault.
Anyone could have done it. Turk was on vacation in Venice. The city on water had always enchanted him. Turk loved rowing boats, swimming, and marveling at Italian architecture. It helps that Turk also can’t resist eating carbs, and would do anything for some good old-fashioned Italian pasta and pizza. So Turk was just relaxing, enjoying life, while he wandered along the small streets of a historic city.
Anyone would have agreed to meet with a random stranger who claimed to have found the cure to death. Turk had money to spare after his football days and he always lived humbly, so what better way to use his wealth than on a shady offer that was probably a scam? It was only 100 bucks. Turk had lost thousands times that gambling in his playing days.*
Anyone would have followed the stranger down a dark alley. Turk forked over the cash, and watched as the stranger took out a briefcase. For a brief second the idea flashed through Turk’s mind that maybe he should have told someone what he was up to. But they would talk him out of it. Maybe he should have some sort of self defense, but Turk still kept fit as a fiddle after his playing days. He’d be fine. The stranger opened the briefcase to reveal a small vial. “Drink it”, the stranger rasped. The cure to life, huh?
Anyone would have taken the vial and drained it in one gulp. Turk had finished his career, made his impact. He was determined to live vicariously, even after football, so what’s wrong with taking a little risk? Odds are it tastes horrible, Turk gets a little sick (or more than a little), and he has a hilarious story to tell. Worst case scenario it kills him, but Turk couldn’t think of any incentive for the stranger to be going around trying to kill random people. So bottoms up, and in no time at all Turk had drank all of the liquid. He felt okay, maybe a little woozy. The stranger peered at Turk intently, then patted him on the back and walked away. Well falling for a little scam is fine. Turk wandered around Venice a bit more, then went back to his hotel, ordered a pizza, and binged Pirates of the Caribbean. It had been a fun day, and the little trip with the weird stranger was easily worth the hundred bucks. Content, and perhaps a little too full, Turk drifted off to sleep.

Slowly building up to the SSL...the line "Anyone would have followed the stranger down a dark alley" made me chuckle. It is well-developed, clear, and engaging. Deeper development or relation to the league would have swayed me to the highest of the ratings.
