It's been a long offseason for Adu, who has been motivated to prove his doubters wrong ever since slipping into the late first round of the rookie draft. The disappointment of slipping down the draft boards was outweighed by the excitement of going to such a great organization in Hollywood. With a ton of great players on the roster already, it was time to great right to work and earn his spot in the starting lineup.
In Adu's first friendly match, both him and the rest of the team got off to a smashing start. In the 45h minute, Adu found the back of the net to give FC Kaapstad a 4-1 lead before being subbed off for the second half. He finished with a 7.7 rating and felt great after being able to score in his first ever appearance. In his second and final friendly of the season, Adu once again played the first half but didn't find quite the same individual success, ending with a 6.6 rating and no goals. While it wasn't the greatest start to a career ever, it felt good to net one and watch his club come away with two victories.
With the friendlies out of the way, it was time to start the real season. The start of the season couldn't be a bigger test, as they were matched up against AS Paris, last year's champions and this season's favorite. Despite being an underdog, it did not look that way for FC Kaapstad. The offense created quite a few very good chances, and it felt like they were going to score soon every time they got in the opponent's half. Unfortunately, the bounces just didn't go their way and they dropped a tough one to AS Paris by the score of 2-1. Despite the loss, FC Kaapstad had an advantage of 2.79 to 1.18 in expected goals and really looked like the better team for the majority of the game. While it was a loss in the standings, it will still give them some confidence moving forward. Adu once again was subbed out at halftime, but felt comfortable with his teammates and knows better days are ahead. We'll see what next week brings!
