Kalinins has played in his first real Minors match! After a couple of decent showings in the Friendly matches, Rova was ready to suit up against Montreal in what would end up being a tightly fought 1-0 victory for Kalinins and company.
CDM Partner Turk would score the lone goal, and go on to have a Player of the Match performance. Kalinins had a rather mediocre showing himself, but got himself into all aspect of the game, completing 32 passes, 2 tackles, and 3 headers. It was obvious that he was a rookie in this game, and didn’t quite have the same performance as his partner. There’s two ways a debut often goes, and we saw one of each that game. Someone goes out and has a spectacular moment, and the other shakes a bit under the pressure. But after game one, everything changes, and the rest of the season awaits. You’re not the same rookie in game two as you are in game one, with infinitely more experience under your belt than you had before.
So don’t count out Kalinins yet, and while he may not be jumping to Player of the Match calibre next game, he will eventually, and each of these learning experiences helps him get there.
