The Slow Life

A nice big burst out of the gate and now things slow down. When you reach a certain level in the world of athletics, the difference between the greats are so slim, but so important. Sure, getting yourself and your foundational talents to a reasonable baseline are the most important things you can do to ensure your competitiveness in this league, however, if you want to be that guy, and want to be above the rest, or at least have the opportunity to, it’s all about grinding for those final percentages, the slight advantages, and that takes tons of time and effort, and most of all, a lot of dedicated work.

Kalinins hopes one day to be the best, or among the best, or at least help facilitate his teammates to reach the best, and more importantly, their best. That means that this road is long, and this road is most certainly expensive. It will take weeks of dedicated training to ensure he is not only good, but among the very best at his most important attributes. It will take seasons to go from this, a serviceable minors player, to the end goal, of a peak so undeniably great that all of that work will be worth it. But while the growth might slow down, the work doesn’t, and Kalinins is ready to continue that work, no matter how fast he progresses.
