Academy Task 5 - What's a Dollar Worth?
#1
Howdy everyone, let’s talk about SSL earning for my deep dive a per Academy Task #5. Earning in sim leagues is slightly different but mostly the same across all the leagues I’ve been in, the SSL differs only in how much you can do with money and that your bank balance resets to 0 every time you re-create, otherwise, similar to the ISFL, PBE, SHL, the system is that you can buy some amount of TPE per season, no longer restrained by money caps that the SSL used to have. There is a wrinkle in that you can buy footedness, traits, and additional positions, and I’ll go over those as well.

At a base, your player now starts at 250 TPE, earns about 190 TPE a season if you do everything, and of that, 18 TPE is bought by money, for a total of 7.65 million a season. Your player starts with 3 million in the bank as your Academy salary, and you’re looking at about a 14 season career, plus the 0th season that you have as an Academy player. The math, on the face, is simple, 15 seasons x 7.65 million = 114.75 million. The number to reach is nearly 115 million if you want to max earn over your career, but there’s some nuance here, and if you don’t want to earn any money, what if we just check out what your career would be like compared to someone who does?

If we assume our players are Max and Cheapo, where Max buys all the equipment every season, and Cheapo saves it in the bank to buy socks and cars, well, the difference is…. Pretty minimal. In absolute percentage points, Cheapo goes from down 4% of Max’s TPE to 9% at the very tail end of their careers, which doesn’t seem like a lot. And even if we use TPE numbers, it’s a maximum of 164 TPE difference between the two!
How much work are you willing to do for 162 TPE? That ends up being 6 attribute points from the highest cost bracket, and all of that for doing SSL PTs instead of affiliating from other leagues.

Now, you can also buy traits and footedness in the SSL, maxing out at 15 million for each, how much are those worth to you? Well, if you take into account the seasonal contract pay, Cheapo can match Max pretty handily for those, by the time the two hit 1k TPE, they’re both going to have footedness and Cheapo will need to wait a couple seasons before having 7 traits, is that worth the time and effort doing SSL media and more?

The value of SSL money is fickle, it comes in the form of a very small amount of your total TPE, not even 9% of your peak. It is very useful for traits and footedness, but otherwise, you’re kinda… not missing out on much. Instead of the 145 million to max (115 for equipment + 30 for traits and footedness), you can get by with solely contract money for your traits and footedness.

However, an SSL PT is also an SSL pay cheque, if you plan on doing SSL PTs for your sim league work, you’ve got a path to 800k a week, and if you do 7 of those a season, well, let’s just say that Peter (PTer) who pays for as much equipment as he earns doing PTs, his player is about as good as anyone else’s. SSL is very casual, as long as you're doing PTs in some league or another, your character is going to be good. It might be worth front-loading some money so you can buy footedness or traits, but it really does not matter otherwise.

So what I'm hearing is that the SSL is the best league ever, 5/5
