S20 Prospect Draft Reimagined -- Rounds 1 to 3
#1
The S24 Prospect draft will be up in just a few more hours from now on and so I thought why not write an article that is somewhat related to drafts? So here is my very first long form article of this sort like ever in sim leagues! Presenting you the S20 Prospect draft.. But reimagined PART 1 (Yeah, S20 Draft is a looong one, so I had to cut this short into two different articles..)

The Season 20 Class of SSL has been the biggest class in SSL History so far! And I firmly consider it to be the BEST class of players to grace this league (A very heavy bias. Believe me. I know.). There are very many great users as part of our class and so here is a thought experiment of sorts.

Imagine an alternate universe (I mean it.. Now start your imagination in 3...2........... Yeah.. 1...…………..) In this admittedly weird world, there is literally no concept of pick trades aka if the team which originally has the pick in the draft is team that drafts the player. Now what if the draft order of the S20 Draft remains the same as in our world, but the team to which they get drafted gets changed to the team with the pick initially. In simpler terms all the pick order of the said draft for all the rounds would be:

Shanghai
Tenochtitlan
ACR
CFCat
HFC
TSC
Tenochtitlan
Shanghai
BA
USP
SFV
RKV

And all the players now would be drafted corresponding teams based off of their picks. Now let's see which players have their teams altered shall we? (NOTE: I am not considering any of the in draft trades that have happened as well. Only following the draft order.)

ROUND 1 -

6 - @Cycro - Jakob Fensterhausen - Tokyo S.C. -- Yup! The first change is for our very own Jakob Fensterhausen who moves to Tokyo/Cairo! Sao Paulo lose a vital part of their locker room and Tokyo gain a wonderful user in their team!

10 - @UptownCord - Ronflex - Uniao Sao Paulo -- And Sao Paulo finds their replacement almost instantly! Cord is my ISFL GM and a wonderful user overall, so all in all a good pickup/replacement(?) for Sao Paulo here!

12 - @Tmoney6996 - Tony Delvecchio - Reykjavik United -- Reykjavik/North Shore gain a power user in Tony Delvecchio! He is a top 10 user TPE wise in the S20 Draft class and Shanghai sort of lose their core of sorts? But who knows what else is to come further down? Let's look forward shall we?

ROUND 2 -

15 - @Voodooman - Pablo Kawasaki - AC Romana -- As stated earlier, I am discounting any in draft trades from this list, so this would definitely count as Pablo had in draft trade to Catalunya. But in this universe, AC Romana/ Inter London snag him! Heavy loss for Catalunya here as Pablo is a wonderful user, an excellent commentator and one of Catalunya's key players! But let's proceed with the rest of the draft shall we?

16 - @Jubka - Juozas Kupinas - CF Catalunya -- What they lost with Pablo, they have gained with Jubka! The current AM of Hollywood, this I believe has made up for the loss of Pablo and more! Jubka is good friend of mine and in this universe, I believe he definitely would been front and center of a Catalunya resurgence. And a BIG blow for Hollywood.

17 - @aegis - Andres De Giron - Hollywood FC -- Well.. wow.. Only after writing the above did I notice this in the very next pick! Another great user (and among the most famous commentary duos commentating on that Supersub goal), aegis would have filled up the gaping hole that was left in Hollywood by not acquiring Jubka.

18 - @caltroit_red_flames - Bread Lasso - Tokyo SC -- I personally don't know much about this user, but they have 945 TPE to their player.. In this universe, thanks to the presence of Cycro and others, I am magically waving my wand as the author and telling you that they would have been an active user but mi earning. Still a good haul for Tokyo nonetheless.

20 - @denismov - Denis Mobek - Shanghai Dragons -- ANNND we see another switch.. Looks like Shanghai have gained one of the premier shot stoppers of our class.. Having lost Tony Delvecchio, getting Mobek should be considered a lifeline for Shanghai here because Denis here is not a slouch either.

21 - @Newkbomb - BigMac Johnson - CA Buenos Aires -- CABA gain a wonderful new addition to their squad in the form of BigMac Johnson! A very active user and a Majors lifer so far, this definitely would be a blow to Shanghai because BigMac is worth it.

24 - @Draz0000 - Draz Tathille - Reykjavik United -- Well the Techno Claners lose their first player in the form of Draz Tathille. I admittedly don't know much about this user so there's that.

ROUND 3 -

26 - @fAeser - Chris Warrick - CD Tenochtitlan -- And the team from Mexico admittedly make up for their loss in spectacular fashion. They gain an FM whiz, a Jakarta legend, a current AM and WSFC manager in Chris Warrick. I have known him from my Jakarta days and what a coup for CDT in this universe!

28 - @ahtuu - Marean Dohbra - CF Catalunya -- Another good pickup for Catalunya (again from Hollywood). ahtuu is a very decent earner IRL and is an important part of FC Kaapstad in our universe. And he pairs up with Jubka in Catalunya/Seoul in this universe.. Title contention is in the cards for Catalunya in this universe perhaps?

29 - @Summerstood - Ashito Aoi - Hollywood FC -- Wait... That's me!! :D Well Sao Paulo, looks like I won't be the Organizational Manager for our org in this universe. And looks like @Domffl was really really impressed from our scouting convo. I won't comment on myself here and that's what the comments section is for!

30 - @RobJG2 - Bobby Green - Tokyo SC -- Again, I don't know much about this user and in this universe it is Tokyo that has drafted them and not CDT.

34 - @Wally - Xavius Kenderlin - Uniao Sao Paulo -- Looks like my replacement in this universe would have been Xavius. Umm.. again, since I don't know much about this user, I would again not comment much..

I think @Domffl would prefer this universe as grabbing summer would allow him to finally retire

Sometimes I go back and look at this draft and kick myself for not drafting Jubka at 5 and Summer at 16.

IMO, picking a GK here really wasnt our priority since we already had Takechi. Losing both Delve and BigMac would hurt us hard, I'm happy to be a decent negociator
