Catalunya had a very successful preseason, making a comeback win away at Romana 3-2 and hosting SFV for a dominant 4-0 win. The results have been spectacular, but some partnerships and players stand out (and stand down??).
The first goal Catalunya conceded was caused from a lack of focus from the midfielder Fuecoco. On his debut with the D2 Majors team, his touch failed him and Romana capitalized on it. Sjoman, a very talented player, was able to take on Kawasaki 1 on 1 and score a brilliant finish against a very experience Twinkletoes. The second goal conceded was from a counter attack. The right wing was very, very open for Romana as their player charged forward with no challenge. The Catalunya high line failed them this time as a pitch perfect ball was played, and Sanji would curl it bottom corner.
Now on to the positives! Later in the half Jenkins was able to find the gap and play a through ball into the box, where Ahmed would take it to the end line and draw a foul. Joga Bonito was able to slot the penalty home, starting the comeback. Unfortunately de Giron, the Catalunya right back, was injured and Supersub was forced to take his place.
As the second half rolled out, Catalunya became very dominant. Jenkins was able to dribble down the left wing and absolutely WHIP a ball into the box, where a stunning header from Joga Bonito thundered off the bottom of the bar and into the net, leaving the Romana keeper stunned. Jenkins secured another assist later by laying off a dime to SUPERSUB!!! who slotted it away to make the comeback complete by the 60th minute.
Main positives from the first pre season match: Zoey Jenkins is a BEAST. A little way to go defensive wise but on the attack they are definitely a main asset for the team going forward.
- Joga Bonito with a nice brace, a very good penalty and a great header. Tre Qartista will be missed but a positive way to start the season for the winger turned striker!
- AMAZING DEPTH!! Supersub with a great goal. Might have to play them more often!
In the 2nd friendly against SFV, there is one word to describe it; DOMINATION. Well, sort of. The start of the first half was shaky but Catalunya eventually broke through in the 33rd minute with a great through ball played by new teammate Fuecoco to Fry who puts it in the side netting for 1-0. New to the right wing, same talent. Fry went on to celebrate the goal, being the first player I've seen celebrate a pre season goal. You just got to love the passion that lad has.
Now, it may be the first season Fuecoco has in the Major division, but that lad absolutely smashed it this game. First an assis to fry, and then had to audacity to take on Maedissen one on one and SMASH it far post. Weirdly another celebration, the passion must be through the roof. Now, I described this game as DOMINATION. But in truth, SFV has more xG in the first half than Catalunya despite the catalans 2 goals. Catalunya just took their chances well.
The third goal saw Jenkin streaking down the left wing again, driving a low cross into the middle for....the SFV defender to slot into the near post?? Another great showing from Jenkins. Supersub was able to make another appearance off the bench after Joga Bonito was forced to come off due to injury.
The 4th goal came from a corner tactic that Catalunya has been doing for the past season without success. De Giron passes it top box to an unmarked Fuecoco. Guess what he does with it? That's right. SMASHES IT INTO THE NET. Wonderboy. That is how the Catalunya fans describe Fuecoco.
