2 Games of Down
#1
We’re underway again, and Kaspars Kalinins is back in action ready to continue his development with Rova, on his way to a Liffeyside debut. With two games played so far this season, the top tier is going to be pretty busy. The middle 4 teams are all 1-1, and Rova sits at the bottom of that pack as the only team with a negative goal differential. Their defensive play has certainly been acceptable, but their ablity to score has greatly diminished, at least in the early parts of their season, likely due to the advancement of some important players to the Majors squad. But, the Rova engine is fueled by youth and development, so I have absolutely no doubt that the new blood that has been brought in will find their feet over the course of the season and we’ll be heading into the final games in the strongest form.

Kalinins has had a lot asked of him in these early games, and he hasn’t quite lived up to those expectations. His passing was not acceptable in their most recent 3-1 loss, despite his header proficiency seeing a bump. He was unable to get even a single takeaway, and given his focus and role, that won’t cut it moving forwards. There’s been a definitive investment in offense this offseason, so this might be an early signal that some defensive training is in short order.
