We once again return with another season of our Festival of the Dragon Award Ceremony. For those who see this for the first time, a small explanation of what this is:
The Festival of the Dragon is an award ceremony hosted by the Shanghai Dragons/Rapid Magyar organisation. It features 6 awards, 5 on which players of the organisation can vote on. The players also have an opportunity to nominate candidates for two awards as well. Here is a quick recap of the awards:
Shanghai Player of the Season – an award given to the overall most valuable player for The Shanghai Dragons FC team.
Magyar Player of the Season – an award given to the overall most valuable player for the Rapid Magyar SC team.
Locker Room Leader – an award given to the user who has has positively contributed to the Shanghai/Magyar locker room the most. This can come in various ways, such as just bringing good vibes, or perhaps organising fun events that gets the locker room together.
‘Low Sweep City’ Card Collector Award – the only award that is not voted on. This is given to the player who has collected the most yellow cards in this season. This is a very important award.
Afterwards, we have two awards for which we collect nominations for just before the award voting begins:
Goal of the Season – awarded for the best goal of the season.
Moment of the Season – an award for the most memorable moment of the season.
We also have a few rules such as:
-You can't vote for yourself for Player of the Season and locker room leader
-Previous locker room leader can't be voted on for a season (Beavie for this season)
-Staff can't be selected for locker room leader
-Staff votes are tiebreakers
The staff for this season were:
North
Daleks
Darthus
SuckiestSucker
That should be everything, so let's continue to the first award:
Shanghai Player of the Season
Marcel Voda had a breakout season. 14 goal contributions, 9 of them goals marked a very prolific season for Voda. He also excelled in other areas of the game, such as 30+ key passes, an incredible 79 tackle% on 68 attempted tackles. Great defensively as well, having one of the highest interception counts in the team and plenty of clearances as well.
Close behind in the voting was the other part of the Slovene duo, Vito Habjanič. His last season in the majors has been incredible. A 7.3 rating, that puts him as one of the best and most consistent players in the whole league. 18 goal contributions, with 11 goals has made Habjanič one of our main threats this season. He also did a great job defensively, despite being at the very front of the field position wise. His last hurrah in the majors has been exceptional.
And of course, the ever consistent Thomas Hohenhahn also put a good showing. A consistent goalscoring threat in the team, on the ground and in the air. 4 man of the match awards, equaling Habjanič's, proves he was one of focal points of the team.
Magyar Player of the Season
James Asprey returns to a very familiar spot. Magyar Player of the Season, Minors Goalkeeper of the Season. Why wouldn't he be here? Highest rating in the team in the league, second if you include cup. Second highest rating goalkeeper in the league overall, highest save%, highest XG prevented. It is the simple truth that Asprey is an unbreakable wall that is always there to bail out the team.
In second place was Arsène N'Goussou. The fresh out of the academy rookie had a great season considering his experience level. 8 goals and 1 assist is a really solid showing for your first season. A very interesting stat is that N'Goussou had 44 fouls made against him, which is always a great way to make some breathing room for a team during a match. Thankfully, his legs are still working as well.
In third we had Sam Albinson, who had an incredible season as well. Highest rating in the team if you include the cup, 3 man of the match performances, and a very good 10 goal tally for someone who isn't the main striker. Plus, 9 assists as well, totalling to 19 goal contributions. A great performance for his last season in Magyar (until his retirement run, atleast), as he has been promoted to Shanghai for the upcoming season. We hope to see an equally great performance in the Majors!
Locker Room Leader
Pandar has been a fantastic addition to the locker room. An everyday presence who often gifts yet another wonderful signature to one of the players. He has been here for only 2 months, but we already can't imagine a locker room without him. He matches the philosophy of the locker room perfectly, and elevates everything within it.
There are a lot of positive things that can be said, but then this article would be double the length.
Same as last season, this award was quite a bloodbath. Lots of votes for lots of people, showing that the locker room is still filled with a lot of wonderful people.
'Low Sweep City' Card Collector Award
INCOMING ENTRANCE VIDEO
AND THE WINNER IS:
Stig Stampe keeps this historic award, collecting 10 yellow cards across all competitions!
There is... not much else to add here. That is all there is to this award.
Goal of the Season
(A clip of the goal is shown in the video).
It is always a highlight when a freekick results in a direct goal, and Franz van Grimbergen’s was no different. However, there are so many factors that make this goal so special.
It is from an incredibly long distance, it is taken from an incredibly difficult angle, and the shot lands perfectly on the edge of the net, just outside of the goalkeeper’s reach. I personally can't remember a freekick goal in the SSL that was better than this one.
While this goal won a majority, there were two other goals that gained quite a few votes. First one is a goal that was scored due to an incredible shot by Allie Bunson, that N’Goussou managed to redirect to equalize against rivals Krung Thep in the final minutes of extra time (goal replay). The penalty shootout that followed ended in a win for Rapid Magyar, making this goal be the goal that won us this stage of the cup. While it perhaps was not as impressive in the technical area as van Grimbergen’s goal, it was a goal that was incredibly important for what ended up being a very good cup run for Rapid Magyar.
Another goal that was very impressive on a technical level was Voda’s goal against Tokyo (goal replay). To produce such a goal, with just one touch of the ball, at such an incredible range, is very impressive.
Moment of the Season
The Moment of the Season award once again goes to Rapid Magyar SC for their incredible win against Krung Thep in the cup. It was an incredibly dramatic match that went back and forth. A late goal in the final minutes of extra time managed to save Magyar and it resulted in a penalty shootout that was ultimately won by the team.

It was all in all a good year for the organization. Shanghai managed to secure division 1 thanks to the help of securing some points against Hollywood and USP. Rapid Magyar had a great cup run, and we also had... uh... this happen:

And that was it for the Festival of the Dragon award ceremony for this season. Thank you so much again to the team and everyone else who supports us. It has been a joy of a season again, and we hope for it to continue for many more seasons! And once again, thanks to @Ghost for the amazing award graphics!
