Hollywood | Kaapstad
Hollywood:Juozas Kupinas (Striker) - @Jubka - 7.17 avgRTG, 7 goals (t-1st), 7 non-penalty g (1st), 3.51 xg overperformance (1st), 20 shots, 70% shooting accuracy, 2 key headers, 10 dribbles
Kupinas played in an interesting role for Hollywood last season, frequently being utilized as a right side-striker in a 3 striker formation. He often had the responsibility of covering opposing wingbacks defensively and operating as the teams primary goal scoring outlet on the offensive end. Compared to other strikers he was low in offsides because he was often asked to get into the box from deeper positions. Kupinas was able to finish very efficiently though as he led the Majors in XG overperformance. Ultimately his case for this award season comes down to being Majors D1's premier goalscorer. He also did it without needing to take a single penalty unlike the other players tied on 7 goals, and still managed to be more efficient on a per shot basis.
Alex Calderon (Fullback) - @Amidships - 7.56 avgRTG (1st), 2 goals, 5 assists (t-4th), 11 chances created (3rd), 42 dribbles, 2nd, 22 open-play key passes (5th)
Calderon held down an often exposed left flank and was the teams most effective creative option from out wide. Calderon finished with the highest average rating in all of Majors D1 and top 5 in all of the important creative statistics. He also finished top 10 in a some defensive stats like interceptions, blocks and headers won.
Ali Dia (Midfielder) - @Domffl - 7.17 avgRTG, 2 goals, 5 assists (t-4th), 33 interceptions (t-6th), 35 progressive passes, 9 key headers
Dia has been holding down the Hollywood midfield for far longer than I've been in the league and this was yet another strong campaign. He was first in assists among midfielders, and was also an anchor defensively. CDM's in Hollywood's system were often asked to go cover opposing wingbacks out wide which just adds to the difficulty of his assignment. This campaign should result in another midfield team of the season berth for the Hollywood legend.
Kaapstad:Maverick Jones (Goalkeeper) - @Thunder39 - 4 clean sheets (2nd), 78% sv% (t-1st), 3.62 xg prevented (1st)
Jones candidacy is very simple. He led the league in xg prevented... by A LOT. He prevented over twice as much xg as the next best player. He was just the most efficient at at stopping opposing teams from scoring this season and should be the favorite for team of the season keeper.
Lucas Peioxoto (Fullback) - @Lpapi - 7.61 avgRTG (2nd), 7 assists (t-1st), 15 chances created (1st), 58 key passes (1st), 34 open play key passes (1st), 24 dribbles (t-5th), 41 interceptions (t-1st), 77% headers won (t-4th), possession won 156 times (2nd)
Biased maybe but I think Peioxoto has an MVP case. Leads or is 2nd in almost every single statistic you would expect from a creative wing defender, and was on the team that finished 1st in minors D1. He was the most prolific creative player as wells as being the best defender out on the wing. His lone player of the match performance came against AS Paris in week 1 as he assisted both of Kaapstads goals to get the season started off right.
Freddy Adu (Attacking Midfielder) - @Doc - 7.5 avgRTG (6th), 5 goals (t-5th), 2 assists, 6 chances created, 13 open play key passes
Adu was the 2nd highest goalscorer for FC Kaapstad and also an important creative outlet in the middle. Adu also spent some time as part of a front 3 where his defensive responsibilities shifted from playing centrally to energetic pressing to covering the wings. He was one of the 2-3 most offensively productive attacking midfielders and the only one to do it from central positions instead of out wide.
