The World Cup Playoffs (Part III)
#1
After the previous articles, I figured why not turn this into a series. Was it planned like this? No, but its fun, so why not? Yes, even with Germany being eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.

After watching us loose, I have to say, that has been the worst football Germany has played in a while. After the Euros at home, it felt like we were back in business and had hit an upwards trend, this momentum was gone soon after as the team did not look convincing in the build up to the world cup. The start against Curacao was strong but we fell of hard, lucky win against the Ivory Coast and deserved loss against Ecuador leading to a deserved loss against Paraguay in the playoffs. Not something we can be happy with. Lets see what changes we will see in the national team and coaching staff.

Let us take a look at all the other played matches in the playoffs so far. Of course the biggest upset is Paraguay, but others came close such as Japan against Brazil. Morocco vs. Netherlands could have went either way in my opinion, same for Ivory Coast vs. Norway. France was the only team that managed to win convincingly so far.

Where might we see more upsets in this first playoff round? I think Austria can beat Spain and I would love to see Capo Verde advance, although the chances of this will be slim.

Lets enjoy the games. Until next time.
