As I sit down for my weekly check in with Kaz Okada today, he is already looking like the cat that stole the canary. I took out my notepad to get to the bottom of what this grin meant.
Before I got a word out, he spoke.
"I knew it was a conspiracy." I didn't respond to that, so he repeated himself. "A conspiracy against my team and me. They slipped up."
"Should I pretend that I know what you're talking about?" I replied, tapping my pen against the pad.
"We started a game the other day... they had us restart it. We were losing the other game 2-0. We lost 1-0 in the second version of it."
I sigh and shake my head. "That did not happen. And even if it did, the conspiracy 'against you' gave you a better and closer match?"
He tries explaining again, rambling on and on about some sort of corruption of the game and that it had to be re-done. I explain to him that, according to all official records, they lost 1-0 to Krung Thep FC. I even pointed out that he had gotten his best player rating yet.
"I know, they're finally recognizing my talent," he said, every so humble. "But it doesn't change the fact that something strange is going on here and I'll make sure everyone knows."
