Hollywood FC and the goals against
#1
Hello there, everyone! For my Academy Task #5, I originally was going to go over how many goals each team allowed against them for each season, but I soon realized the scope of that is a bit much. SO, I've narrowed it down to taking a look at Hollywood FC and how they've done historically! As one of the teams that's been here since the beginning, I think there's a lot of trends that can be seen by just following how many goals against they suffered. One trend in particular is how do their goals against track as far as their placement in the league? So let's look into it and dissect that! Below is the list of goals allowed by Hollywood FC for every season they've existed and their placement in the league (Going off of wins/draws/losses).

S26 - 17 - 1st in League
S25 - 13 - 1st in League
S24 - 18 - 3rd in League
S23 - 17 - 1st in League
S22 - 32 - 2nd in League
S21 - 20 - 1st in League
S20 - 23 - 4th in League
S19 - 23 - 6th in League
S18 - 25 - 5th in League
S17 - 29 - 5th in League
S16 - 37 - 5th in League
S15 - 38 - 6th in League
S14 - 29 - 6th in League
S13 - 30 - 7th in League
S12 - 30 - 6th in League
S11 - 10 - 1st in Division 2
S10 - 18 - 7th in League
S9 - 11 - 1st in League
S8 - 12 - 1st in League
S7 - 10 - 1st in League
S6 - 15 - 1st in League
S5 - 12 - 2nd in League
S4 - 22 - 3rd in League
S3 - 23 - 4th in League
S2 - 17 - 1st in League
S1 - 22 - 4th in League

Now looking at all this, what the heck can we infer from just Hollywood FC's goals against and their positioning??? Well, a few things of note stood out to me that I thought were pretty interesting!

First, in the 10 different seasons where Hollywood FC made 1st in the League via their Win/Draw/Loss record, it has always been when they've allowed 20 or less goals against. This holds true even if other teams have managed to avoid allowing 20 or more goals as well. However, there's three seasons where they failed to make 1st when getting scored on 20 or less times, which are S5, S10, and S24. In S5 and S10, it seems like it was a lack of scoring as they only managed to put together 21 goals in S5 (4th best in the League out of 8 teams) and 16 goals in S10 (2nd to last in the League out of 8 teams). The outlier among those is S24, where they scored 22 goals which is 2 more than the 1st and 2nd place teams did. So that tells me right there that they probably SMOKED a team or two but just couldn't clutch up when needed. Happens to the best of us though!

Another interesting note is just how radically up and down Hollywood FC has been over the seasons. Starting with S6, they made 1st 4 seasons in a row, and then suddenly BOOM, 18 goals against and they drop into Division 2. They made quick work getting climbing back out of Division 2, but then were seemingly sentenced to hell between S12 - S19, where they failed to get higher than 5th place during that entire stretch before finally getting into another dominate phase. I hope for their sake they don't have to go through hell again, but it's impressive to see how despite the rough stretch, they've never been dead last in the league.

One last thing I wanted to point out that I believe sticks out like a sore thumb, but what the hell happened in S22??? 32 goals allowed and they STILL made 2nd? I went looking, and for some reason that season in the league had scoring go WILD as the lowest amount of scores allowed was 25. In a season where defense seemingly didn't exist at all, to allow 32 points and still manage to get 2nd is quite impressive, considering the last few times they allowed 30 or more goals were very rough for them.

That said, definitely left an impression on me with how Hollywood FC has been from beginning to now! They're clearly a team that's always trying hard and refuse to allow themselves to ever be called the worst team in the league. Seeing them on top again doesn't seem too surprising when you think about it that way, and I'd for sure be keeping an eye on that defense of theirs in the future as it seems when their defense is at it's best is when they're doing their greatest work!
