Heading into the final match day, we truly have our own destiny in our hands! It’s been a wild last couple of weeks where we let it slip, and it allowed an ever-impressive Masques team to start to catch up to us.
As we headed into the 3rd last game of the season, Masques actually led us by 2 points and saw us drawing on points with Cairo City. We would play Athenai as Masques faced off against Seoul and Cairo would be facing division champions Rova. Rova beating Cairo was unfortunately a pretty predictable result, not because of a lack of quality on Cairo’s front, but sadly due to how absolutely dominant this Rova side has been. Seoul would, by all accounts, perform quite the upset and beat Masques 3-2, giving us the chance to leapfrog them once more… and that we did by dispatching Athenai 2-0.
Now… heading into the penultimate game of the season game of the season we had the advantage if we could hold on to it with a very tough game vs Seoul, however, in the other massive match up saw Masques and Cairo facing off one another, with Cairo looking to perform that end-of-the-season push for the playoff spot in 2nd.
And an entertaining game for the Egyptians, with them putting 3 past Masques and finishing the game out 3-1, allowing them to jump ahead of Masques and cause quite the nervy final matchday for us. We would go on to beat Seoul in a very tight 1-0 victory, but at this stage of the season that scoreline is the only thing that matters… that and the 3 points would we leave Stade Fleur-de-lis with!
Montreal is facing off against Cairo in that final game of the season, and there is still a chance that Cairo can perform a massively impressive push and finish off a pretty underlooked season. Now… how the final matchday is shaping up and what is needed by who;
If Montreal is to LOSE to Cairo, then they would need to do so by LESS than 4 goals… anything better than this would see them through and secure themselves a playoff spot against a rather… struggling… Inter London side.
