It was a wonderful day. Berocka Aloisi kitted up with his new teammates, he was so green that he still couldn't remember everyone’s name. He was told by the manager he would be playing on the right wing in an attacking midfielder role. It wasn’t his desired spot but he knew he could make it work.
The manager gave the whole team a pre-game rev up and told Aloisi at the end “Mate you only get one 1st game, you can only debut once. Go out there and show all the fans in the stadium and watching at home why we picked you. You play well and there will be fans with your jersey on by game 2. Make it special and make sure you do your job.” This is exactly what Aloisi needed to hear this is the sort of speech that gets him going.
It took him a while to find his feet. This was the loudest he has ever heard a crowd and he knew he needed to perform.
It was later on in the second half there was a corner, Aloisi found a spot next to a few small defenders at the back post. He knew that if the ball came near him that this would be his chance. It was like everything went in slow motion. The ball curved nicely he took a couple of strides and jumped as high as he could. He was the perfect height, above all the defenders, he struck the ball so sweetly and saw that the goalie was not going to get anywhere near it. It hit the back of the net and Aloisi couldn’t believe it. He didn’t run off celebrating he stood there shocked, he scored a goal on debut. All the teammates even the ones he still didn’t know their names were around him to celebrate. It was truly the right way to start his career.
