I wanted to see more content around the league, so this is my way of contributing. Every week, the managers of each team will get a a chance to talk about their teams and how they have faired overall. As of this first week, 10 out of 12 managers have responded! We have asked them 4 questions regarding overall predictions for the season as well as some of the more memorable moments of the week.
Weekly Recap
Catalunya
1. First week of S4 has now gone by. What expectations do you have on your team going into this season?
Answer: We want to win the league of course so we expect ourselves competing with the best of the best in the league.
2. What team do you think will be the biggest surprise this season? Positive or negative.
Answer:I think Tokyo will compete with the big boys this season. They have a very small, but it seems very active squad now. Best of luck to Sky Ryze who used to gm me in another league. Looks like they're gonna have a great season for them.
3. What was the best moment for your team this week?
Answer: Beating Franco Torres and Cairo Shitty. Alexandra Gunnarsson read his cheeky chip shot and carried us to victory with their big saves. Jackson Clarke and former assman and club co-founder came up big for us by putting it in the back of the net. This is my favourite club to beat.
4. Who was your teams player of the week?
Answer: Jökul Júlíusson
Sydney City FC
1. First week of S4 has now gone by. What expectations do you have on your team going into this season?
Answer: So I think our main goal for this season is to just maintain competitiveness with the top dogs in the league. We had a fantastic season last year and managed to get 2nd place, falling short of winning it all last, but this season we just want to maintain that sort of level of competitiveness. We don't expect to win the whole thing, but we'd like to be in the top 4 as every team continues to strengthen
2. What team do you think will be the biggest surprise this season? Positive or negative.
Answer: I think Tokyo will be a surprise this season in the sense that they might push to break the top 3 this season. I think this might be our most competitive season yet, so it really is anyone's guess for top 3
3. What was the best moment for your team this week?
Answer: Personally, the best moment for me is just being able to see that the team was able to play in union and to the tactic. That's evident in us taking a 6-1 win against Buenos Aires. It just felt like everything clicked with the tactic and the builds, so it's a lovely thing to see.
4. Who was your teams player of the week?
Answer: It has to be the big man Owen Forty-Three, the guy managed to bag 4 against Buenos Aires this week and he's been a big part of everything that we want to do here in Sydney
AS Paris
1. First week of S4 has now gone by. What expectations do you have on your team going into this season?
Answer: We have actually performed better than I ever could have dreamt of. We still have a long way to be a good team, but the base is there, the guys are active and hyped, I can see us pulling a top half finish or close to that. We are not Sydney after all
2. What team do you think will be the biggest surprise this season? Positive or negative.
Answer: Well I will avoid talking about us in this case. I really like Seoul this season, they seem like they can upset a lot of people with their style of play, and while not touted as the best or close to that, I believe that Cole will actually do his wonders and pull some aces he hides on his sleeves.
3. What was the best moment for your team this week?
Answer: I think that our first win was arguably our best moment, guys celebrated like crazy and we were overall very happy!
4. Who was your teams player of the week?
Answer: I am gonna avoid saying me and hand the Player of the Week to my buddy Sebastien Pelletier. Monster goal in the loss against Seoul, another one in the first game along with some assists... and he still a rookie
Athenai F.C.
1.First week of S4 has now gone by. What expectations do you have on your team going into this season?
Answer: Not gone as expected. We are a younger team this season and the difference in TPE is starting to show. We've had a couple of close games where the ball just hasn't gone our way, the season is still young and there are a lot of games left.
2. What team do you think will be the biggest surprise this season? Positive or negative.
Answer: Seoul or Tokyo as a positive surprise compared to last season. They have been kind of building in the shadows and are coming together as a team this season.
3.What was the best moment for your team this week?
Answer: Seeing our rookies get their first touches on the pitch is always fun!
4. Who was your teams player of the week?
Answer: Jannik Andersen. Kept us in all three games and it's unfortunate that our offense did not repay the favor.
C.A. Buenos Aires
1.First week of S4 has now gone by. What expectations do you have on your team going into this season?
Answer: To become better and more consistent. We had one awful game and two really close ones, but I expect us to be one of the most improved teams by the end of the season. We have the strongest midfield in the league and some great prospects surrounding it.
2. What team do you think will be the biggest surprise this season? Positive or negative.
Answer: I think Cairo will surprise a lot of teams. Former S1 winners that hasn’t been able to live up to it since. G2019 is a great manager, and that partnership of Azpi and Torres is a match made in heaven.
3.What was the best moment for your team this week?
Answer: Seeing just how great our rookies were. They took the field and all delivered strongly.
4. Who was your teams player of the week?
Answer: Edwin Van der Sloth. Very hyped 5th overall pick who scored 3 goals over 3 matches? Excellent performance from him. A close 2nd in this being Antonio Governo who had some great games too.
Inter London
1. First week of S4 has now gone by. What expectations do you have on your team going into this season?
Answer: It's a really competitive league, and this week is just further proof of it. I think we can still be a top 4 team in this league, but we're clearly just a class below the best
2. What team do you think will be the biggest surprise this season? Positive or negative.
Answer: I think a big surprise this year is that I expect, suspect, and am fully ready for us to struggle. It's not an easy road back to the top, I'm not sure we have enough to get there
3. What was the best moment for your team this week?
Answer: 3 goals in 5 minutes to open our season was really really solid. A perfect example of the high tempo, aggressive sort of football I love to play
4. Who was your teams player of the week?
Answer: Probably Benji Atreides - big role in our opener against Accra and big goal against Montreal United.
Seoul Mythic FC
1. First week of S4 has now gone by. What expectations do you have on your team going into this season?
Answer: Seoul took a hit with the expansion, I won’t sugarcoat it, but we managed to patch up those holes really well and with the talent we acquired in the draft our squad is looking poised to compete. I’d argue we’re a lock for the top half and we can push our way into the top 4 with some luck.
2. What team do you think will be the biggest surprise this season? Positive or negative.
Answer: I think Tokyo will shock some people this season. I’m not one to give plaudits to a rival but they’ve come out this season as an entirely new team, playing a much more attacking game than we’ve ever seen from them. I’m interested to see what they do.
3. What was the best moment for your team this week?
Answer: It has to be Aloisi’s header. Few things are better than getting the rookie a goal in their debut and Berocka’s was sensational.
4. Who was your teams player of the week?
Answer: I struggle to pick a specific player, we had a lot of strong performances throughout our roster this week and truly we put out a team effort every MD. If you’re going to twist my arm I’ll have to give it to Okocha though, he was a constant threat for us this week and while the scoresheet might not reflect it I don’t think we walk away with 6 points this week without his efforts.
Montréal United
1. First week of S4 has now gone by. What expectations do you have on your team going into this season?
Answer: it was good, first game didn’t go as planned but took it on the chin bounced back with a huge draw against Athenia, then went on to a big upset win against London
2. What team do you think will be the biggest surprise this season? Positive or negative.
Answer: Tokyo, will be a top 3 fighter all season
3. What was the best moment for your team this week?
Answer: The outstanding game from Adam Rage vs IL
4. Who was your teams player of the week?
Answer: Adam Rage no questions asked
Cairo City
1. First week of S4 has now gone by. What expectations do you have on your team going into this season?
Answer: Honestly, with the performances we've shown, I expect us to be a mid/upper-mid table team. We've shown we can play with the top teams, and will only improve as the season goes on.
2. What team do you think will be the biggest surprise this season? Positive or negative.
Answer: Again, I think it's us. Cairo had an incredibly rough season last season, and I think folks are already starting to see that we are much improved and ready to play in Season 4.
3. What was the best moment for your team this week?
Answer: Getting the opening day win against Buenos Aires has to be the answer. Honorable mentions: ToastMan destroying Seven in the box/Gabe breaking Constanza's ankles/Jeeves running all the way up the sideline and scoring.
4. Who was your teams player of the week?
Answer: It's gotta be Franco Torres, with 4 goals in 3 matches, he's clearly back to prime form and is looking to be one of the leagues top strikers this season!
Adowa Accra FC
1. First week of S4 has now gone by. What expectations do you have on your team going into this season?
Answer: We expect to be competitive on the 2nd half of the season and cause a few upsets
2. What team do you think will be the biggest surprise this season? Positive or negative.
Answer: Catalunya is probably going to be closer than ever to a title this season
3. What was the best moment for your team this week?
Answer: The first game. Even though we lost, it was a great opportunity for all our rookies to join the league
4. Who was your teams player of the week?
Answer: Aleris Snooks, for their amazing performances and ofc for being named the new AA FC captain!
