So it turns out I mislabeled the numbers of the teams in the last edition. They were not 12, 11, and 10, they were 14, 13, and 12. When this edition begins with 11, despite the last one also containing an 11, that's why.
11. Sydney City
There's nothing wrong with Sydney per se, it's just that I don't exactly think of Australia pertaining to this sport in particular. I know they've had a few good players - Tim Cahill, Mile Jedinak, Mark Schwartzer, Aaron Mooy - but I just can't associate Australia with being a good soccer nation (admittedly this is true of USA as well, even though I live in USA, but Hollywood has already appeared on the list).
10. Uniao Sao Paulo
This is going to be a weird one, as my problem with Sao Paulo isn't even really their fault. They definitely play somewhere that makes sense, I don't mind expansion teams in general (hence Kaapstad not yet showing up, plus my beloved Paris was an expansion team not long before) and I have nothing against their players or management or anything. So why are they 10th? Look at that logo. I'm not a graphics guy myself and couldn't have done any better, but the black and red, the sharp lines, the font - tell me that isn't a Cold War era Soviet propaganda poster. That's what their logo looks like. I'm sorry, and I know I'm probably the only person to have made that particular connection, but that is what it looks like.
9. Athenai FC
This team concept is just a bit boring to me. There's nothing wrong with Athens as a location, nor do I have any issue associating the sport with Greece - I'd think distance running first, given the Phidippides/Battle of Marathon story, but it's definitely a country that's had some degree of soccer success - it's just that there's nothing really drawing me in about it. It's primarily white, which is usually more an accent color, it's this weird image of the Parthenon standing on top of additional pillars, it's just kind of there. It's a shame too, because their GM is one of my favorite people on this site. AW and I go way back, we've been on each other's teams before in plenty of other leagues, and I'd play for him anywhere, but it's just not a team concept that I'm super interested in.
