GRADED: GRADED: A Cairo City Season Recap
#1
Another week with no SHL PT means I must find something else to talk about since I already did my Pierre Houde review for S5. This week I've decided to talk about the unlikely run to the Cup Finals of Cairo City FC.

The first draw was faorable to Cairo City who drew expansion team FC Kaapstad from the second division. It was only a formality for the North African club, winning the first leg 5-0 at home and winning the second leg 6-1 in South Africa, for an impressive 11-1 win on aggregate. It was good for Cairo's moral after only three points in their first five league games.

While the league play didn't really improve for Cairo on day 6 and day 7 (a 1-0 loss to Hollywood and a 4-0 loss to Sydney), they Cairo City players played their hearts out on their home turf to win 1-0 against the reigning Cup Champions, Catalunya FC. They battled it out once again in Catalunya, a 2-1 loss, but enough to go through on away goals with a 2-2 aggregate. Catalunya took their revenge in league play on Day 8 with a 3-0 win, but Cairo won when it mattered.

It kickstarted a good streak for Cairo who won 3-0 against Seoul on Day 9 and drew 1-1 on Day 10 and 11 to AS Paris and Athênai respectively. They also won 4-1 against Tokyo on Day 12. It really looks like the Cup Quarter Finals win kickstarted a series of good results, earning precious points in the process in the battle for relegation.

Cairo was able to dodge the always dangerous Sydney City in the Semi Finals, drawing Seoul MFC. Cairo had a strong start in Leg 1, winning comfortably 5-0 and closing it out with a 4-2 away win to move on to the finals on a 9-2 aggregate. We move on to face Sydney City in the finals, which will undoubtedly be a tough task.

It's kind of weird to see a team with only 11 points reach the finals, but Cairo was able to play really well when it mattered. Hopefully it's a sign of good things to come for the African squad, who once again, had a rough start to the season.

378 words

I regret underestimating you guys and playing a weak lineup. We'll be back next season to get back the cup. Good luck this weekend!
