It was an exciting time when Dombrofski Maximiliano had received the news that he had been drafted into the SSL League. It took a while to get over the shock of what he was experiencing and fully realise what this meant. He was going to be a professional footballer. A dream come true for the for the boy from Timor-Leste. Joy welled up within him, followed by a new found sense of determination and purpose. He wasn’t going to waste this chance.
Adowa Accra FC, from Accra Ghana. Hmm… He would probably have to learn to speak the language he realised, expand upon his English before he arrived as well as potentially learn a bit of Twi. It was going to be hard work, especially in such a short amount of time. But for this chance he was willing to do what it takes. Since the news Dombrofski studied hard, taking up intensive language courses alongside his football practice in the weeks before leaving. Trying to learn as much as he could before the day arrived, where he would leave his home country and take the next step towards his destiny.
On the plane ride across his mind was nervous. It had been tough, and he knew there would still be a lot to learn in adapting to a new environment. But he also knew he was prepared. He knew the language, he had researched the customs, the environment and anything else he could think of. He was ready.
