Jailbird - A Vercetti story - S4C5 Words - 294

Squall's eyes scanned the calendar in front of his room and it seemed to dawn on him again: his days playing the sport in peak performance were bound to end sooner than later. He had been a one-club man for his whole career so far but after a talk with the club's board, he had been told that he wouldn't be a member of Tokyo's active roster for much longer. A member from day one, having been drafted really early with a bit of shock considering how unqualified he seemed in the pool of prospects - the man himself expected to go later down the line - the Canadian defender had thought about it and admitted to the board that he would stick around as long as he was deemed useful.

He had seen much change in Tokyo and the relation was reciprocal - his life was far different from where it was from the start. Squall entered as a young man with little promise in life and was on his way out as a well-paid bachelor. He was also seeing a girl now, something that to him seemed a bit peculiar when you consider his reputation at the start of the league of a rough, take no prisoners defender.

Next steps? He had yet to tell. In his mind, he was keen on playing professionally still but in a scenario with less pressure. Maybe the local Japanese league? Canada had a football league now, it didn't seem like much but maybe it'd be fun to go there. There was also the US, the Saudis and whatever other league that was paying too much money to someone on the way out.

...But hey, he still had some time in Tokyo. Time to make the most of it.
