When Steven Urkel was selected to be the goalkeeper for the Victoria Falls Eagles of the SSL academy system, he was excited for the chance of a lifetime. The possibility of making a big enough splash to get the attention of scouts and GMs from the big teams was something he had dreamed of for a long time. For the first few games, Steve really struggled, and lost several matches. It was a big jump from the street ball he was used to, but he was determined to get better. His teammates were very supportive. After all, a good goalkeeper can make the whole team look better. Steve got much better as the season rolled on, and ended the regular academy season with a 5-5 record in 10 appearances. 3 of his 5 wins were clean sheets, not allowing the other team to score any goals, and Steve even won player of the match once. Finishing the season with an 82% save percentage, best amongst the academy GKs felt pretty good. The Eagles ended up facing Atletico Medellin in the academy championship game. Steve was really nervous at first, but as the game went on, he got his confidence back. The game ended with a 4-0 Victoria Falls win. Steve will miss his Eagles teammates, but is excited to see where the next step of his journey takes him. (229 words)
