match day 1, tough loss for Athenai
#1
well, Sweeper The keeper's first matchday in the minors is concluded, and while it ended in a solid 3-1 defeat, there are some good takeaways to be had. First of all, saved a penalty! not often that we see something like that, so when it happens its exiting, especially on my first match day. second, we actually won the match on NPxg, and aside from the numbers the match was much closer than the stats suggest. we got forward really well in possession, and I think if we can execute on crosses more as the year goes on the offense will come along just fine. Defensively, there are areas to tighten up, particularly in set pieces and maintaining focus during fast breaks. That said, the backline showed resilience, and I was proud of how we regrouped after conceding, picking up an immediate equalizer, at least the first time. as for our tactic, I think that 5 at the back should work out fine, especially with the wingbacks getting as far forward as they did today. one downside I feel in the tactic is that with 2 of our 4 attacking players being APs we might have some issues with getting a high volume of quality shots away, but we took a healthy number today so I defiantly could be wrong. Overall, not an ideal start but showing loads of promise!
