Slab Head hadn't always been known as such, but he had always been a footballer. First beginning his career between the posts as a less than successful goalkeeper, Slab Head moved around the pitch a lot as a youngster, used as an extra body or fresh legs wherever was lacking. It was at 11, with the step up to 11 a side that he started to settle into a central role. Initially this was as a central midfielder, relying on his immense work rate and above average stamina to hound and harry the opposition, essentially outworking them to overcome any perceived lack in footballing ability.
It was once Slab Head hit puberty and made the transition to a mainstay at centre back that he earnt his name. A towering man of 6'3" by 17 years of age, Slab Head was an old school, no-nonsense CB in a modern footballing world obsessed with possession and flair. While not the most technically gifted, or the most refined footballer to ever grace the hallowed turf of Manchester's infamous amateur Sunday League setup, Slab Head continues to make up for this with a physicality and motor unmatched by any opponent. He became a ruthlessly efficient defender, using any means necessary to get the job done, whether that meant mind games or leaving a boot in early to play in the back of an opposing strikers brain for the remainder of the game, Slab Head will do everything in his physical capabilities to stop the ball ending up in the back of his net.
