de Trella defeats rival on way to WSFC Final
#1
Aart de Trella entered the Simulation Soccer League at the right time— directly after wrapping up his season with Stockholm IK of the SSL Academy and being drafted first overall by CF Catalunya/Seoul Mythic, de Trella found himself selected to the Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg) regional team for the World Simulation Football Classic. This annual tournament would be de Trella’s first opportunity to go up against higher level players that he will soon face with Seoul in the Minor League next season.

Throughout the group stage, Benelux did well enough to make it out of Group A and into the bracket stage. The looked poised to make a deep run as they largely dominated their opponents, save for a last minute defeat at the hands of fellow group mate West Africa. With West Africa taking first in the group, Benelux took second, meaning they would play a group winner from group B, C, or D.

The matchup draw occurred, and it was decided that Benelux would be going up against the Alpine Federation in the first tournament round. de Trella was very excited for this matchup for one reason: the opportunity to one-up fellow former Stockholm IK center back, Valentin Morgenstern, who was also drafted in the first round of the SSL draft. While playing for Stockholm, the two had a great relationship with great chemistry on the field, shutting down attacks and combining for goals on the other end of the pitch. However, after the draft, bad blood has been starting to form between the two, both eager to prove themselves the superior center back.

Unfortunately for Valentin, it seems like Aart de Trella has won the day yet again. On top of leading Morgenstern in TPE and getting drafted first (higher than Morgenstern), Benelux, with the help of de Trella, was able to easily defeat the Alpine Federation with a final score of 5-2. Morgenstern could not do enough to stop the relentless attack of the Benelux side. While I’m sure Valentin must be disappointed, de Trella would remind him to use this defeat as a learning experience.

It will be interesting to see in the coming seasons if Valentin Morgenstern can enact his revenge in some way, or if Aart de Trella will continue to have the upper hand in this rivalry.
