It’s time. Matchday 1 of the Academy season is here, and the anticipation is palpable. Delvecchiop is ready and raring to get out there and show the world what he can do. Between all of the practices, the tough times, the blood, sweat and tears that have led to this moment, Tony cannot wait any longer.
Not only is this a huge moment for the Delvecchio family, but it’s a testament to all of the Backyard kids and their drive to continuously push each other to be the best athletes they can be. Tony was able to catch up this week with long time friends Pablo Sanchez and Mikey Thomas, both of whom chose careers in other sports. Tony was thrilled to be able to talk about the ins and outs of Academy training, his new teammates (specifically the dinosaur and the logistics behind how that actually works out on the field), and going into detail on what an amazing city Stockholm is.
It's always great to be able to catchup with olds friends, even when it's digital. Tony is hoping that this can be a weekly occurence, but also knows that as he gets deeper and deeper into the season with Stockholm, that his time is going to be limited. He's hoping that he can work with Academy management to be able to set aside some time to keep these conversations going, but only time will tell if that can be arranged.
This week is a busy one though, Matchday 1 and 2, trainings, interviews, media appearances, it just never ends. But Tony will always make time for his friends and family, after all, they are the reason he's in the position to make his dreams a reality, and he'll never forget where he came from, even when he's thousands of miles away.
