Matchday Recap (MD2) Port Royal V Adowa Accra
In this week of Academy League in the SSL, the match between Port Royal and Adowa Accra is one to remember. Plenty of goals, great passing plays and a bit of drama. What is there not to like?
The scoring started quick. In just the 3rd minute of the game, Xavius Kenderlin scored a curving rocket right into the top left bins after a beautifully worked corner, with Sam Albinson playing a vital pass that led to the goal. Adowa Accra didn't take too long to respond however, with Dippy Dip scoring in the 11th minute after a cheeky one two with Cesare Pinkman, after which he took his time to line up his shot and shot it far post, making the game 1-1.
In the 23rd minute, Port Royal start off with a short kick from the goalkeeper to a centre back. They run up the pitch, switching the ball to the right side. BigMac Johnson plays a beautifully weighted cross that lands right on the head of Xavius Kenderlin to net his 2nd goal of the match. But Port Royal didn't stop there, they were unrelenting, pressing high and making chances constantly until 35th minute.
Another corner from Roger Roger goes to the far post and gets headed out by one of the opposing players towards Jonny Foster who plays it out into the path of Xavius Kenderlin, he shoots right into a mass of players, composed as can be, and the ball ripples the back of the net, granting him a first half hat trick in his second ever game for the club.
And then, not even a minute later, a tackle in Adowa Accra's box forces the ref to VAR. Both teams are shaking to see what the result will be. Port Royal could end up 4-1 up, and Adowa Accra could end up having to fight an even bigger deficit. The ref looks away from the screen... No Penalty.
Despite the setback, Port Royal don't lose their heads. They stay focused, still trying to increase their lead to tuck the game to bed. Meanwhile, Adowa Accra are struggling to hold on. They may have chances but they are panicking under the constant press of Port Royal.
After the second half. Adowa Accra seemingly come out a different team, putting on a high press and fighting for that goal to put them an inch closer to a win. And in the 49th minute, they believe they have finally got their goal, but it ricochets off the post after a daring header from Thomas Bello. After seeing Adowa Accra's renewed determination, Port Royal knew they had to step up their game.
In the 89th minute, after a scrappy bit of play in the midfield, the ball is played out to Albinson who is one on one with the keeper. He seemingly times his shot, but the ball comes flying back to him as he hits the post, both teams now having suffered from the woodwork.
However, it is too little to late for Adowa Accra. The ref blows his whistle, signifying the end of the game and engraving the 3-1 score line into the league. An amazing match from some players who the potential to be stars in the SSL.
