S19 Prospect Draft RECAP

S19 saw a decrease in prospects from the 53 that were drafted in the previous season to down to 28 prospects. A big downtick in the new class but not the quality. There were still a lot of great picks in this draft and teams got what they needed. Lets recap the draft by rounds. 

Round 1 
Pick 1 - CF Catalunya selects CD Aart de Trella (trella) 
Pick 2 - A.C. Romana selects CD Coin Flip (midknight) 
Pick 3 - União São Paulo selects CD Slab Head (ACynicalGamer) 
Pick 4 - Hollywood FC selects CDM Howie Dewitt (Icebear32)
Pick 5 - Tokyo S.C. selects GK Dalton Canders II (DalC21)
Pick 6 - CA Buenos Aires selects CD Valentin Morgenstern (Pythonic)
Pick 7 - Reykjavik United selects ST Bimitar Derbatov (RussDrivesTheBus)
Pick 8 - Schwarzwälder FV selects CDM Cameron Millwall (stevo)

Round 1 Recap. 
CF Catalunya selected the player with the highest TPE and probably a sought after position for most teams. What is the most interesting fact of this round was the majority of picks were used on defensive positions. 4 Central Defenders were selected, 2 Central Defensive Midfielders, 1 Goalkeeper, and only 1 Striker. I was very surprised at these positions at first, but then it kinda of makes sense as teams are probably hurting for more players on the defensive side. So why not select the top prospects first to fill in those needs. Every team had a pick in the 1st round. Hollywood FC only had 1 pick total, so they were finished after this round. 

Best Pick - Aart de Trella - The best defender in the class and is living up to the expectations
Surprising Pick - Bimitar Derbatov - Really its only surprising because they were the only offensive player selected in this round. 

Round 2
Pick 9 -  Reykjavik United selects LAM Mikko Rashford III (Whitecap)
Pick 10 - A.C. Romana selects CD David Luiz Jr. (G2019)
Pick 11 - União São Paulo selects RAM Zach Mulder (MightyMulder)
Pick 12 - CF Catalunya selects LAM Kim Heung-Min (r1c3bowl22)
Pick 13 - CF Catalunya selects RM Carolien Miedema (LtForestPuppy)
Pick 14 - CA Buenos Aires selects CM Alex Neale (favenviro)

Round 2 Recap
This round saw 5 midfielders (3 attacking) get taken to 3 defenders. Reykjavik and CF Catalunya had 2 picks each. Reykjavik, after selecting the only striker taken so far, went with LAM Rashford and RD Bahl. While CF Catalunya took the best defender #1 in the 1st, went with 2 midfielders (Heung-Min and Miedema) in the 2nd. Still surprising to see the majority of picks being used on defenders (half of the picks so far used on defense). Reykjavik United were finished after this round after making 2 picks (3 total - ST, LAM, RD). CA Buenos Aires was also done after making their pick (2 total -CD, CM).

Best Pick -   RAM Zach Mulder. Currently the only player drafted in S19 that is on the clubs Major team. So ill give the advantage there
Surprising Pick - Still surprising that only 1 striker has been selected at this point. Not sure if there is technically a surprising pick. But if I have to pick someone maybe Alex Neale as currently is the lowest TPE out of these Round 2 picks. 

Round 3

Pick 18 - União São Paulo selects CDM Hugh Jeplay (mystictoejam)
Pick 19 - União São Paulo selects LAM Joe Mamba (IR15H0000000000)
Pick 20 - CF Catalunya selects LM Day Walker (scudmuffin19)
Pick 21 - Tokyo S.C. selects LAM Elias Kruger (YetiTaz)
Pick 22 - Tokyo S.C. selects ST Malachi Shturm (Alexei3755)
Pick 23 - Tokyo S.C. selects LWB Lorenzo Rigoberti (Messer Morfeo)
Pick 24 - Schwarzwälder FV selects RM David Vent (Shiny)

Round 3 Recap
This is finally the round where the offensive players started getting selected. Well only 2 strikers but 2 attacking mids. União São Paulo had back-to-back picks to finish up their draft. CF Catalunya made 2 picks this round surrounding the São Paulo picks. Tokyo then had 3 straight picks after having no 2nd round pick. Schwarzwälder completed their draft after selecting their 3rd and final pick. 

Best Pick -  Tre Qartista currently the striker with highest TPE in the class. Also currently is tied for 4th in goals in the Minor league. 
Surprising Pick - Teams might just be trying to fill spots at this point. So nothing surprising moving forward. 


Round 4+

Pick 26 - A.C. Romana selects RM LaBamba Ball (MoistNavel)l

This completes the draft. CF Catalunya had 3 more picks while only AC Romana had one more. All other teams were finished. Lets see how the teams did.

CF Catalunya had the most picks with 8, 4 more than any other team. They also selected 5 midfielders. 
Hollywood FC on the other side with only 1 pick. The least amount in the draft.
Tokyo SC was the only team who selected a goalkeeper.

Offense - 8 picks were used on players who were offensive.
Defense - 13 picks used on players who were defensive. 

Lets see where the class stands as of now 
Among the 28 prospects drafted, 
- 20 Prospects have hit the 500 TPE mark. (71.43%)
- 14 prospects have hit the 550 TPE (50%)
- 6 prospects have hit the 600 TPE mark (21.43%)
- And only 1 prospect has hit the 650+ TPE mark (Aart de Trella (trella) leads the class with 673 TPE)
- Only Zach Mulder (MightyMulder) has made the Major team 


Final Thoughts
 CF Catalunya having the most picks might have helped but they still had some great selections in Aart de Trella, Kim Heung-Min, Carolien Miedema, and Tre Qartista. 
Reykjavik United also made the most of their picks by selecing Bimitar Derbatov, Mikko Rashford III, Kika Bahl
 Tokyo SC and Hollywood FC really missed out on some solid picks by not having any 2nd round picks.
