Damian DeSoto comes from a family of athletes. His father, Jimi DeSoto, was a linebacker in the ISFL and a "Philly Cheese Great" for the Philadelphia Liberty. His older brother, Dusty DeSoto, was a pitcher in the PBE, spending most of his career pitching relief for the Providence Crabs. Damian took a different route, showing interest in soccer at a young age. However, Damian was not as excited by scoring goals or fancy dribbling skills like many of his peers. Damian was more interested in crushing tackles and intercepting passes. This could maybe be attributed to his father, a former defensive player, for instilling the value and importance of defense in Damian's mind since he was just s child. Damian was also the taller of the DeSoto brothers, which suited him well for defensive purposes. Damian relished the opportunity to win headers. This is not just because he likes to get his head on the ball, but it is also because he appreciates the challenge of overpowering his opponent when jostling for position. He played some basketball as a child, and he always enjoyed rebounding and battling in the post for the same reasons. He is a player that is not looking for personal accolades. He is a player that is willing to do the dirty work that many others aren't willing to do. Players like this are so important to championship teams, and Damian is hopeful that he can fill a trophy case with team accomplishments in the future.
