ATHENS (AP) -- We're back at it again with another article about the Austrian defender and part-time wingback Valentin Morgenstern. For once, he did not have any smart words or disses for us regarding his longtime rival Aart de Trella, and frankly, we're glad that we don't have to write about it. Instead, he mostly talked to us about training and development in Athens' current system, and his plans for the future.
"Things feel like they're coming along slowly but surely," Morgenstern told us, "A lot of it has been focusing on getting back up to speed physically and mentally, the time off between Austria and here didn't help either much at all."
When asked about what he's been working on the most in training, he had this to say: "I've definitely been flexing the fundamental muscles of the game, you know, your pacing, speed, and so on. If you don't have those building blocks, then it doesn't really matter how good your vision on the pitch or your passing is, now does it? Or if you get muscled away every time you try to mark an attacker?"
Wise words from Mr. Morgenstern indeed, how can one play football if they get bullied in every physical aspect of the game? Well, Athenai teammate and SSL boomer Edwin van der Sloth might be able to tell you a bit about that...
