GRADED: GRADED: Fever Dream
#1
Our scene opens with Hercule donning a pith helmet, one leg resting on the prow of a river boat ala Washington crossing the Delaware. The humid conditions have really moistened his trademark mustache, requiring extra twirling to get it just right in advance of his opening line, “Egad! A murder!” Death on the Vaal, a highly adjacent re-imagining of the Christie classic Death on the Nile won’t begin shooting for another year, but already Hefeweizen’s day dreams are filled with fleeting images of his nascent silver screen stardom.

But he hasn’t quit his day job. On the pitch it has been a strong start for the well remunerated Belgian. An average rating of 7.5 over his first 4 appearances in all competitions for Kaapstad. His best performance may actually have been in the only match the team did not record a win, instead drawing Paris 2-2 in the league opener. In that game he earned his first assist after a header forward, ultimately controlled by teammate Hohenhahn, found the back of the net in the closely matched contest.

If you only look at goals and assists Hercule’s contributions may be overlooked, but he has touched all aspects of the game for the southern hemisphere squad. Leading the minors with successful passes, he also finds himself in the top ten of tackles won, interceptions, distance traveled and dribbles. That last pair has been a point of pride for the mustachioed one. Operating as a single pivot in the clubs aggressive 4-1-4-1 he has needed to find ways to advance the ball and get it to the teams threatening forwards. And so far he has been able to make the right decision more often that not, whether that be a pinpoint pass or daring dribble through midfield.

Early days still of course, both for the soccer club and movie preparations. Hefeweizen must remain vigilant, maintaining a singular focus, keeping -as it were- the main thing the main thing. It’s fine to daydream about his movie star success, but in his waking hours he needs to keep on putting in the work to earn his paycheck on the field.
