There was much rumor and speculation as to whether Badrick Blackwood V, of acclaimed Blackwood dynasty fame, would be present at his upcoming academy matches after armed gunmen helped him escape his sentencing in court on Februrary 21st in spectacular fashion. Forthwith, an arrest warrant was given out in Kingston in order for the Jamaican to be brought back to justice.
Eventually, the young winger did turn up to his subsequent matches against Istanbul FK and later against Atletico Medellin, but not without an escort of similarly green-masked gunmen. The gunmen were equipped with automatic rifles and the KPD were nowhere to be seen at the site of the match against Atletico nor at the Kingston airport when Badrick departed for Istanbul in his father's private jet.
The 19-year-old was seemingly undeterred by his wanted criminal status and continued his usual antics on the pitch - which manifested itself most fiercely after he scored a volley against one of his rivals, Denis Mobek. Blackwood erupted in celebration and threw the Romanian keeper's water bottle at his head. As the referee prepared to produce the red card from his pocket, one of the gunmen entered the pitch and proceeded to threaten him, after which the referee withdrew.
The Istanbul players were visibly shaken by the state of affairs, with several of their players, including Sergej Nadj and Stefan Davidović, seen crying as they entered the tunnel as their team conceded a 3-0 loss at home. "Touched up [sic] at home", Badrick Blackwood V reportedly exclaimed as the final whistle blew. In the post match interview, Davidović said he "[c]ouldn't believe it" and lamented all the hard work he had put in "getting up at three in the morning each day".
In addition to all of this, there were murmurs in the Istanbul camp that Mobek had taken a bribe from the wanted fugitive on the pitch and had purposefully thrown the match, after an unusually shocking display from the Romanian. Mobek's agent, Barrington Brightwood, dismissed any and all speculation and assured the press that if anything of the sort had happened it would've been "under extreme duress."
There will be much interest at the upcoming match between Sydney City and Port Royal, which is set to pit Louis Ashworth, a long-time adversary of Badrick and a witness who testified against him at his trial, against his rival.
