In life, all good things must come to an end. But the season table would suggest that the season the Victoria Falls Eagles had would be something that wasn't good.
However, the opposite was true. The team had a great time together, even if the table looked like prime Derby County in that one premier league season (I think Victoria did score more than them in just 14 games lol)
At around 9:00am, the alarm would blare for Don Lorenzo. There was a final practice session in the morning for the Eagles with the final matchday having completed. There wasn't a rush to change into gear, it was a debriefing and farewell.
Don Lorenzo would head to the training field alongside his teammate roomates, Tank Denstro, Giacomo Santori and Juozas Kupinas. Lorenzo skipped breakfast to make sure he didn't have to wash his gold teeth again, as they remained nice and shiny.
They arrived at the training field where Coach Victoria Fäll began their debriefing for the season.
"Thank you all for playing here this season. There were ups, downs...and downs...and somehow more downs, but you all gave it your best effort every time we got onto the field. You've grown as players and people, and I'm excited to see where the future takes you!"
This was met by a chorus of cheers from the players, including a deafing one from Terminus Ultimus, who was still over 8 foot tall in a seated position.
The meeting together lasted a bit longer, but at 11:12 AM, coach Victoria gave the team good news.
"As a fun activity in today's debriefing, we're going to play pickup basketball together!"
The inital cheers were then met by a question from Kupinas.
"Coach, will Terminus be allowed to play?"
This caused him to think, as Terminus stood up.
"I CONCUR WITH KUPINAS. IT WOULD BE DREADFULLY INCONVENIENT FOR ME TO PLAY GIVEN THE OBVIOUS ADVANTAGE WITH MY HEIGHT. I WOULD SIMPLY BLOCK EVERY SHOT AND PUT THE BASKET INTO THE RIM. THEREFORE I SHOULD BE A REFEREE AND MANAGE THE GAME INSTEAD. I THINK THE PLAYERS WOULD NOT CHALLENGE MY DECISIONS...OR HELLFIRE AWAITS."
"Works for me." Was the response from Kupinas and the rest of the team, who then set up the groups of 5 who would face off.
Tony Swagger, Tank Denstro, Don Lorenzo, Juozas Kupinas and Giacomo Santori formed one team, while Bobby Green, Janko Delibasic, Jay-Jay Okocha Jr, Bartholomew Junior-Junior and Carlos Narvaez Jr. formed the other.
Don hadn't played basketball before, but being one of the taller players on the court, he did a good job defending the paint and making some easy shots.
The team led by Delibasic had to play small ball, but they were quite good at it, as Delibasic had a surprisingly good shooting form, and knew how to slip by different players to get open. Kupinas meanwhile worked an excellent pick and roll combo with Tank, as the two led the way for their offense.
It was 20-20 late in the game, and it came down to a buzzer beater. Narvaez held the ball. as Green set. an off ball screen for Delibasic, who made the catch and took the shot...for it to barely miss. It bounced away and Don Lorenzo picked up the rebound. He saw Kupinas making a run down court, with Santori alongside him, and only Junior-Junior trying to keep up. Lorenzo lobbed a ball down court...for it to completely miss his targets.
It went so far that it hit the backboard, and violently bounced in. The entire court was in stunned silence as they saw the "shot" go through. Then the team mobbed Lorenzo as they celebrated together.
At 1:49pm, the team enjoyed a final lunch together, with italian food being the staple, spaghetti, pizza, and more. Lorenzo and Santori raced to see who could eat thier spaghetti faster, but Lorenzo won, showcasing the quick eating habits he learned whilst living on the streets.
"You learned to eat that fast because you were homeless?" Kupinas inquired.
"Yep! It's a cool skill, okay?" Lorenzo replied.
Santori put his hand on his shoulder with a look of pity. "That's honestly really depressing."
"It's not that bad, besides, I've got a whole bunch of teammates who are family! Or at least close to it, okay?"
With that cheerful note, the players gave one last hurrah together as the lunch concluded.
At 3:57pm, Lorenzo, Tank, Giacomo and Juozas returned to their dorm for the final time, packing their things as they prepared to. moveout. They gave heartfelt goodbyes, but they all knew they'd eventually see each other soon. If not at draft day, it would be on the field...as rivals!
The packing process wasn't too hard for Lorenzo, he didn't bring much as he didn't have much yet; so he stuck around and helped his teammates move out too.
He arrived at the aiport at 7:19pm, an hour early for his 8:30pm flight. After getting a small meal at the airport, he boarded his plane which was headed to Turin. Lorenzo planned to meet up with the Benelux delegation on draft night to celebrate alongside the other Benelux rookies, but he was going to spend a week in Italy to train with his mentor, Snuffy, to help him get prepared for the next season.
After taking an ap on the plane, the plane would arrive at around 11:39 pm, where Lorenzo would meet up with Snuffy at the airport. Once they got back to Snuffy's mansion, they shared a glass of wine, and decided to watch a movie. It just so happened "A Minecraft Movie" was playing, which happened to be a perfect choice. As the movie began, Snuffy and Lorenzo gave a cheers in Italian: "Verso il futuro!" (onto the future)
