Added time. Tied 3 apiece with North Shore. Second place in the league on the line. With just over a minute left to play Andrews prepares to take a free kick from JUST outside the box, he unleashes a cracking attempt direct at goal. Just barely missing it ricochets off the crossbar, the force of the shot quickly taking it to the corner where Girard corrals it. Tick Tock. Girard attempts to take some time off the clock, there might only be one chance left in this closely matched game.
Caspian Skovgaard for Kaapstad applies pressure to Girard, forcing the action to give his team a chance to turn the tables. The North Shore player attempts a pass to his center back partner Berit Skovgaard. Enter our hero, Hercule Hefeweizen. Seeing the pass the Kaapstad Defensive Mid races to contest Berit. With an excellent challenge, equal parts skillful and strong, he dispossesses the opponent and the race is on.
Under a minute now, miles of green ahead of our hero. Both North Shore center backs in hot pursuit. It’s been a long hard match and Hercule has already run himself ragged patrolling the midfield all game long. But now is when it matters most. Berit nearly gets the better of Hercule, cutting off his angle, leaving just a sliver of space down the right touch line. Hefeweizen deftly makes use of both his feet to continue his pacey dribble. The Belgian can make the byline now, but how can his team get it in the net?
A brief hesitation and a gorgeous burst flusters Skovgaard. The spin Hercule executes is not so graceful, but highly effective; he can view the rest of both teams rushing hard toward the opposition goal. He picks out a pass into the box, with teammate Wagner coming on in perfect unison. Girard, the North Shore defender who featured previously in our saga rushes to close down Wagner. But the Kaapstad winger is able to get a boot on it and head it toward goal. It takes a deflection off Girard rendering ineffective the last second dive von Bismarck makes to try and stop the game winning goal.
4-3 Kaapstad. Down 3 at halftime, they needed every second of this second half to equalize and ultimately take the lead and clinch their second place finish in the league.
